2011 Range Rover

UK showrooms will get the new 2011 Range Rover in mid-September. The 2011 model gets a minimally revised nose with the major changes centered on its diesel powertrain that's preferred by most Europeans. The current 3.6-liter is replaced by a longer-stroke 4.4-litre V8 diesel. The new model also gets a new eight-speed ZF paddle-shift auto. This combination, alongside subtle electronic modifications like a smart-charge alternator, raises power by 15%. This complies with the new Euro 5 clean-air standards, reducing fuel consumption by 18.5% and CO2 by 14%. The model currently delivers 30.1mpg on the combined cycle -- the first time that a Range Rover has surpassed 30mpg.

The four-cam, 32-valve diesel receives a new cast-iron block and uses parallel sequential turbocharging similar to the Discovery‚ 3.0-liter V6. The model has a power of 309bhp at 3750rpm -- a slightly lower specific output to help it manage NOx. It also has a torque that's 9.4% more at 516lb ft at 2000rpm. A sprint from zero to 60mph can be accomplished in 7.5 sec , with 1.1 sec faster than before. Passing acceleration is even better. A Jag-style selector now controls the transmission and the Terrain Response system gains hill hold and acceleration control. This stops the car from running away on slopes, even if Hill Descent Control isn't engaged.
