At the International Commercial Vehicle Show in Hanover, Germany, Renault has launched the Kangoo Express Z.E., an all-electric, commercial variant of the Renault Kangoo. The electric vehicle is priced at €20,000 (excluding VAT) but buyers will benefit from the tax rebates of up to €5,000 in certain European countries (like France) that give tax credits for low-emission vehicles.
This brings the price of the vehicle down to €15,000, not including VAT. The compact commercial vehicle features a 22 kWh lithium-ion battery (when leased, a €72 monthly cost is added) that powers the electric motor that delivers 44 kW (60 PS / 59 bhp) and 226 Nm (167 lb-ft) of torque.
On a full charge, the Kangoo Express Z.E. can be driven for 160 km (99 miles). Renault said that only about €1 to €2 will be spent to “fill up” the Kangoo Express Z.E., depending on the market’s price of electricity. The Kangoo Express Z.E., which starts selling in Europe in the middle of next year, will offer the same payload capacity of 650 kg as the standard, non-electric model.
