2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI to make its debut in UK later this year

Later this year, a four-door Impreza WRX STI from Subaru will be launched in the UK. The saloon was unveiled at the New York Motor Show last spring. It is created to improve the demand for the cult performance classic, which shifted to a five-door hatchback body style in 2007. The arrival of the saloon in the UK is expected to cast doubt about the hatchback’s future as there have been no imports of this car to the UK since the 2008 model year. During the launch, Subaru America chief operating officer Tom Doll said the saloon “will expand the appeal of the iconic performance model.”
He added that what drove the car’s introduction is the “strong, loyal and vocal support” from thousands of owners. At the Nurburging, the Impreza saloon underwent extensive development work. The 2011 model also has significant suspension upgrades. Subaru regards this vehicle as the “best-handling WRX STI ever.” The modifications done on the model include a lower ride height, stiffer bushes, higher-rate springs and thicker front and rear anti-roll bars.
Added features include new, lightweight 18-inch alloy wheels and upgraded Brembo brakes. The front receives styling tweaks, including sharper creasing on the bumper, a new grille, a new lip spoiler and a new headlight design. The saloon also gets wider wheel arches and a new rear bumper design. Power is derived from a 301bhp version of Subaru’s turbocharged 2.5-litre flat four engine, which distributes power to all four wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox.
