2011 Suzuki Solio

Japanese carmaker Suzuki is preparing to debut a new 2011 Solio model into its domestic market. The model, which was launched internationally in 1997, features a box-shaped hatch-back body with a clear focus on interior space. The 2011 Solio model offers better fuel economy and a more spacious cabin room than the previous model. It is also equipped with sliding doors on both sides to have easier access to the back seats – a feature that will be useful in crowded car-parks. The new model is expected to start landing in Suzuki’s Japanese dealers on January 7. It was designed to be a tall, compact wagon that’s user-friendly and features good fuel efficiency figures. The left- and right-hand rear sliding doors are complemented by a one-touch double-folding rear seat that allows varying seat arrangements.

Measuring only 3,710 mm (146 inches) in length and 1,660 mm (65 inches) in width, the body of the car is compact. This small wagon will be powered by a 1.2-liter gasoline engine that delivers 91hp and is combined with a CVT and front-wheel drive or optional all-wheel drive. The new Solio is aimed at Japanese customers who want to move upscale from minicars and for those hoping to downsize to a more compact model.

Suzuki expects that the new Solio, like the Swift, will act as a pillar of its sales growth in the compact category. Suzuki has set a target to reach domestic yearly sales figures of 12,000 Solios. After this new model was announced, Suzuki and Mitsubishi have released a joint statement to disclose that the two companies have mutually agreed on the OEM supply of the vehicle to Mitsubishi. The agreement, which is expected to boost productivity and cut production and development costs, estimates that Suzuki will deliver 800 Solios each month to Mitsubishi, starting in the spring of 2011.
