Toyota Motor Corp. plans to bring the re-designed 2011 Toyota Passo to China to be locally produced before 2012. China Car Times revealed that Toyota aims to achieve an annual capacity of over 150,000 vehicles for its new entry-level vehicle. Toyota recognizes that it missed out on taking a larger portion of the market earlier this year when the focus was on sub 1.6L displacement vehicles. To make up for this, Toyota plans to make an impact on the small car market and make Toyota's models more affordable. In China, the 2011 Toyota Passo (codenamed EFC) with a displacement of 1.0-1.3L will be offered in two versions: standard and Hana. It is believed that the new Toyota Passo will be produced at the carmaker's Chinese joint venture with Guangzhou Auto. Measuring 3,640 mm x 1,665mm x 1,535mm (LxWxH), the 2011 Toyota Passo can seat five adults. The Toyota Passo will be priced between 50,000 to 70,000 yuan ($7,400-$10,000) to compete against the Honda Fit, Nissan March and other A0-Class hatchback cars that cost less than 70,000-90,000 yuan. In addition, the new Passo will feature VSC & TRC system (Vehicle Stability Control Traction Control system), SRS airbags, SRS curtain-shield airbags, active headrests and other safety systems.
