2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 production kicks off in Ontario

The assembly plant of General Motors in Oshawa, Ontario, has commenced regular production of the reintroduced 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. Kevin Williams, president and managing director of GM of Canada, commented that this is an "exciting new chapter" in the revival of the "tremendously popular" Chevrolet Camaro. He added that the new 2012 Camaro ZL1 further displays the "flexible capabilities" of the "award-winning" Oshawa Assembly Plant. With a 6.2-liter 580 hp engine and a torque of 556 pounds-feet, the sports vehicle is the most powerful production Camaro ever in the manufacturer's history.
The first retail production of the vehicle will be priced from $54,995, including a $900 delivery fee. Standard features include a nine-speaker Boston Acoustics audio system, rear-park assist with a rear-view camera display, Bluetooth and USB connectivity and black leather interior.
Among the optional features are the suede microfiber accents on the steering wheel, the power sunroof, shift knob and shift boot, 20-inch, bright aluminum wheels and exposed carbon fiber weave hood insert. For an additional cost of $1,185, a six-speed automatic transmission with TapShift controls will be available. In January, Chevrolet has sold 5,709 Camaros, a 20 percent gain over the same month last year, GM revealed in a press release. Last year, Camaro sales increased 9 percent to 88,294 units.
