2012 Chevrolet Cruze Station Wagon

Chevrolet is set to present a Cruze station wagon at the Geneva Motor Show next month. This car is expected to drive up fleet sales of this brand in Europe where a wagon is a typical company car. The wagon will be added to the Cruze hatchback and sedan that have already started selling in Europe. Measuring 4,675 mm, it is a little bit longer than the hatchback and sedan models. Its load space is 500 liters, increasing to nearly 1,500 liters with the rear seats folded down. Chevrolet Europe Managing Director Susan Docherty said that the Cruze station wagon is targeted at an important market segment.

She said that this model fits what European drivers want when it comes to “distinctive design, dynamic driving, space and economy.” The wagon features Chevrolet's new 1.7-liter diesel engine, together with a 2.0-liter diesel and 1.6- and 1.8-liter gasoline engines. Chevrolet Europe said that this engine range will be offered on the entire Cruze line-up beginning in the summer of 2012. According to IHS automotive analyst Ian Fletcher, the low emissions 1.7-liter diesel will be crucial to Cruze sales in Europe where diesels are popular because due t lower overall running costs when compared with gasoline models.

The 130-hp 1.7-liter diesel, with stop-start technology, is standard. It could reach higher CO2 emissions of 119g/km. Fletcher said the station wagon would help Chevrolet in the company car market. Last year, the Cruze is Chevrolet's No. 3 seller in Europe last year after the Spark and Aveo with sales of 48,564, according to market researchers JATO Dynamics. [source: Autonews]
