After a two-year absence, the iconic BMW M6 is returning with a bang! Now more powerful and more efficient, the all-new M6 vaunts of being able to offer more luxury and focus. The third generation of the BMW M6 now dons an engine developed by engineers at BMW M division. M6’s V8 engine was further developed from the one used by the BMW X5 M - X6 M, which is internally known as the S63. The new engine, now internally designated as the S63Tü, makes use of a similar M Twin Power technology combined with the reverse flow V8 layout. This development resulted to a high-revving V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo Technology, allowing the M6 to kick power at higher rev ranges.
The 4.4-liter S63Tü could provide up to of 560 hp (412 kW) of output at 5,750 – 7,000 rpm and up to 500 lb-ft (680 Nm) of torque at 1,500 - 5,750 rpm. This is higher than that of the S63, which could provide up to 555 hp of output at 6,000 rpm max and 500 lb-ft of torque at 1,500-5650 rpm. The rev limiter, meanwhile, interferes at 7,200 rpm for S63Tü, up 200 rpm from the S63. The rev band for V8 S63Tü is almost three times as wide as that of the V10 engine in the second generation M6.
The all-new BMW M6 will be available in four-seat Coupe and Convertible variants. The 2012 BMW M6 Convertible will be available in US BMW Center showrooms in June 2012 while the BMW M6 Coupe is expected to arrive in the late summer of 2012 as a 2013 model. BMW will disclose US pricing, technical specification, EPA mileage ratings, standard and optional equipment as the on-sale date approaches. BMW introduced the M6 badge in 1987 in an effort to exemplify the combination of the luxury and usability of a BMW coupe and true super-car performance.
