Honda has officially unveiled the 2012 CBR1000RR Fireblade to commemorate the 20th anniversary of when the CBR900RR was first launched in 1991. Honda simultaneously unveiled two samples of this new vehicle at two world class racing events. One was shown off at the Le Mans 24 hours round of the Endurance World Championship in France at the same time as the introduction of the same vehicle at the eleventh round of the 2011 World Superbike Championship in Imola, Italy. Those who attended the unveiling included John McGuinness, who raced at Le Mans for the Honda TT Legends Team.
The unveiling at the Superbike race was attended by Jonathan Rea, rider for the Castrol Honda Team. The 2012 CBR1000RR features a new styling package. It comes with a new nose, layered main fairing and a tail section to give it a look that’s more aggressive and dynamic. Its new front and rear suspension were presented for the first time on a production motorcycle. Its advanced new rear shock features a double-tube design to guarantee a smoother and more precise response, excellent damping and boosted traction. The 2012 CBR1000RR also comes with 43mm telescopic front forks with Showa's Big Piston technology, to have improved damping, intensified front tire grip and improved stability under braking.
With the new fuel injection settings for the 999cc inline-4 engine, it becomes even smoother and easier to use, specifically at smaller throttle openings. It features a set of new 12-spoke wheels. These aluminum wheels offer a more consistent rigidity to work with the new forks to have improved handling. It also has an improved instrumentation. The new CBR1000RR Fireblade makes use of a multi-function LCD instrument panel that now has a lap timer, gear position indicator, and a tachometer with 4 modes of display. The 2012 Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade will be priced at MSRP: $13,800 (standard model), $14,800 (C-ABS model).
"For 2012, the CBR1000RR boasts even better handling via a patented Balance-Free Rear Shock, Big Piston Fork and new wheels. Add to that a 999.8cc engine pumping out huge midrange horsepower and torque for class-leading real-world muscle, and you have a high-performance package unmatched in its overall balance by the competition." said the press release.
