According to the latest reports from Kicking Tires, it appears that Chrysler will introduce on the 2012 Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited its brand new 3.6-liter V6 powertrain. Dubbed Pentastar V6, the new engine made its debut on the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, but now is also featured on almost all the models from Chrysler’s lineup, such as the 2011 Dodge Charger, 2011 Journey, 2011 Grand Caravan but also on the 2011 Dodge Durango. Still, the bad news is that the 2011 Jeep Wrangler will get the old 3.8-liter V6 delivering just 202 hp.
Furthermore, Sergio Marchionne, CEO of Chrysler Group, also confirmed the upcoming Dodge small car. According to Marchionne, the new car will come in a sedan form, and not as a hatchback like the 2011 Caliber, because hatchback are not so popular in America.
The new car will be based on Fiat’s new compact platform, used by the new Alfa Romeo Giulietta. The same architecture used by the new car will also govern of Chrysler’s C- and D-segment vehicles, both passenger cars and SUVs, for the foreseeable future. The new Dodge sedan will make its debut in 2012, and will be produced at the Belvidere, Ill., Assembly Plant.
