2012 Kia Rio 3-Door

Kia’s Rio 3-door offers the same range of ultra-efficient engines, trim levels and external dimensions from the five-door, which went on sale in September 2011. From the side, Kia’s B-segment hatchback has a stunning coupé-like side profile. It is priced £600 lower than the equivalent five-door models. Four engines are available for the Rio 3-door, consisting of two petrol and two diesel engines – identical to what’s offered on the five door version. The very efficient and the heavily praised 1.1 CRDi offers a dynamic performance from its output of 74bhp and 170Nm of torque available from 1,500rpm.

All the versions offer CO2 emissions of 99g/km or below and have a fuel economy rating of at least 74.3mpg. All the new Rio diesels, which include the 1.4-litre models, are equipped with EcoDynamics technologies, like Intelligent Stop & Go, as standard. The 1.4 CRDi is a four-cylinder diesel engine that comes from the same U2 range as the 1.1. It has an output of 89bhp and 220Nm of torque. It has a combined fuel economy rating of 70.6mpg and a CO2 emissions figure of 105 g/km. The new Rio is also available with two petrol engines. The 1.25-litre Kappa engine is the entry-level unit. It debuted in the new Picanto, Kia’s smallest car.

The engine can deliver 83bhp and 121Nm of torque. Furthermore, the new Rio is offered with Kia’s 1.4-litre Gamma engine, which develops 107bhp and 137Nm of torque. Buyers may opt for the automatic gearbox instead of the standard manual. All petrol manual versions of the new Rio have an impressive fuel economy, surpassing 50mpg. Its CO2 emissions level is lower than the EU’s 2012 corporate average target of 130g/km. In mixed driving, the 1.4-litre automatic version of the Rio can accomplish 44.1mpg. The trim grades offered for the Rio 3-door are badged ‘1’, ‘1 Air’, ‘2’ and ‘3’.
