2012 Mazda MX-5 Kuro Special Edition

A new Special Edition of the Mazda MX-5 sportscar -- the ‘Kuro’ – will go on sale on July 1. This new MX-5 GT Concept road-legal trackday car is set to be revealed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. From the word Kuro, which means black in Japanese, we’ve determined that it refers to the sporty, dark accents of this newest pair of Special Edition models. To complete its look, it got the Brilliant Black roof, Brilliant Black door mirrors and dark gunmetal 17-inch alloy wheels. The Kuro is based on the MX-5 SE and Sport Tech models and would be offered as a 1.8i Soft-top and a 2.0i Roadster Coupe with more specification improvements over the donor car such as a diffuser-style rear sports bumper, bigger diameter sports exhaust, one-of-a kind race car inspired exterior graphics.

It will also be getting black detailing around the front grille and front fog lights, as well as the ‘Kuro Edition’ badging. Inside the MX-5, there’s the Stone and Black heated leather seats, Stone leather door inserts, with contrasting red stitching, a silver interior deco panel with red accents, alloy pedals, premium floor mats with race inspired logo and climate control air-conditioning.

We get a glimpse of the MX-5 1.8i Kuro Soft-top, which is available with a zero percent APR finance over 36 months (50% deposit) or 5.9% APR, First of all, it is priced at £18,495 and the MX-5 2.0i Kuro Roadster Coupe is priced at £21,995 (OTR). There are two powertrains available – the 126ps 1.8i with a five-speed gearbox (Soft-top) and the 160ps 2.0i with a six-speed manual transmission. Similar to most MX-5 models, the Kuro duo has sufficient handling with a lively performance, going from zero to 60mph in 9.9sec (Soft-top), which can achieve a top speed of 121mph. Meanwhile, the Roadster Coupe can accelerate in 7.9sec and reach a top speed of 136mph.
