Pricing details for Mercedes-Benz’s SLK 55 AMG have been announced. This model, which is regarded as the most powerful SLK ever built, has a road price of £54,950. It is equipped with a new, naturally aspirated, direct-injection version of AMG’s 5.5-litre V8 engine, which drives power through the rear wheels via a seven-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission. The new V8 engine has an output of 421hp at 6,800rpm and 540Nm of torque at 4,500rpm, enabling the vehicle to achieve a 0-62mph acceleration time of only 4.6 seconds to reach a limited top speed of 155mph.
What’s amazing is that fuel economy and CO2 emissions are lower by 30%. This was achieved by installing AMG’s Cylinder Management System comparable to what’s used on the Mercedes-Benz Formula 1 engines. This deactivates two cylinders on each bank of the V8 when the car is operating on light throttle loads. In addition, an ECO stop/start system has been fitted so that the SLK 55 AMG doesn’t use fuel and has no CO2 emissions when it is not moving in traffic.
