2012 Paris Motor Show Preview: Peugeot debuts the all-new 208 GTI

Peugeot introduced today the all-new 208 GTI, a production version of the 208 GTI Concept unveiled back in February. Set to make its world debut at the 2012 Paris Motor Show this month, the new car is powered by the 1.6-litre THP 200bhp petrol engine delivering 200 hp and 275Nm. With these numbers, the 2013 Peugeot 208 GTI hits 100 km/g (62 mph) in less than 7.0 seconds and is able to accelerate from 80 to 120 km/h (50 to 75 mph) in less than 7.0 seconds in 5th gear.

Light in weight, at 1160kg, the 208 GTi achieves a real feat by emitting CO2 at just 145g/km. This means that this sporty hatch is with 165 kg lighter than the 207 GTI. In terms of design, there’s nothing new, comparing it with the 208 GTI Concept.

We find a sporty body kit consisting of new front and rear bumpers, new side sills, chromed side mirrors, a rear roof spoiler and a sport exhaust system hidden under the rear air diffuser. The exterior design is completed by the 17" diamond Carbon wheels, with Storm paint and matt varnish that house the 302mm ventilated discs at the front and 249mm at the rear.

Cooled by dynamic air intakes, they provide controlled and incisive braking. The same sporty theme is continued at the interior where we find a new steering wheel with a flat bottom, aluminum pedals and a new gear knob, as well as a new set of sport buckets.

The 208 GTi delights its driver with an incisive driving experience due to the involving chassis dynamics, providing superb driving sensations. Springs, calibration of the shock absorbers, anti-roll bar, enhanced front subframe and rear crossmember rigidity, plus that the suspension and wheels are specific to this latest Peugeot GTi.” said the press release.
