The latest 208 subcompact from Peugeot will be more fuel efficient and smaller compared to the 207 vehicle that it replaces. It will be launched in Europe next spring with a new lineup of downsized three-cylinder gasoline engines with 1.2-liter and 1.0-liter displacements. It will be competing with the VW Polo, Renault Clio and Ford Fiesta. The most fuel-efficient gasoline engine will have carbon dioxide emissions of 99 grams per kilometer, but the model's lineup of diesel engines will be as low as 87g/km. According to the company, the average CO2 emissions of the 208 are 34g/km lower than its previous model.

The vehicle is 10mm lower and 70mm shorter compared with the 207. However, the wheelbase is the same. Moreover, it is 110kg lighter on average versus the 207, with the base version weighing 975kg. The space in the rear passengers have 50mm extra legroom while the trunk space is 15 liters larger at 285 liters. The company disclosed that the design of the 208 shows off Peugeot's new styling intended to give the brand a modern "sculpted, athletic, pure and sophisticated" appeal. The company achieved sales of 189,069 units of the 207 during the first nine months, 19 percent lower than the figure posted from the same period last year, JATO Dynamics has revealed.

"The 208 is a new illustration of the Marque’s project launched two years ago, representing a new stage in Peugeot's desire to drive itself towards ever greater modernity." said Xavier Peugeot, Marketing and Communication Director, Automobiles Peugeot.
