2012 Porsche 911: first details revealed

2012 Porsche 911

The heavily re-engineered coupe and cabriolet, codenamed 991, will start selling in the UK in October 2011. The model receives refreshed exterior styling, a higher-quality interior, six-cylinder boxer engines that are more powerful but are fuel-efficient, sharpened dynamics and an improved list of high-end options. The new 911 will be positioned further upmarket and will permit Porsche to reorganize its model lineup to prepare for the introduction of a new entry-level mode that will be developed with VW as its partner. Porsche traditionally makes major changes to the 911 every second generation. The current 997 is considered as a heavily facelifted version of its predecessor, the new 991, which was designed from scratch. Weissach engineers hope that its features will enable it to proceed through to the next model, due in 2017, without having to do any major or expensive modifications.
