2012 Porsche Cayman Clubsport (CS) approved for production, coming to LA Auto Show

2010 Porsche Cayman

As you may know already, the Porsche 918 Spyder received green light for production today, but it appears that this is not the only good news from today as Porsche silently approved the production of another model which will make its debut at this year's Los Angeles Auto Show: the Cayman CS or Club Sport. Set to go on sale in 2011 as a 2012 model, the new car will follow the same recipe as the Boxster Spyder and will receive lighter weight components, fabric door pulls, and a uniquely styled set of lightweight wheels which will carry the same design as those found on the GT2 RS.

Although no details were revealed regarding the new car, we do know from previous reports that it will carry a 3.4-liter engine capable to deliver 333 hp! Also, we will find a new Sport PASM suspension (20 mm lower than the standard version), aluminum doors, fabric door pulls, a lightweight hatch, lighter sport buckets, revalved steering assist, a new rear diffuser, ducktail-style rear spoiler (inspired by the one found on the 911 Sport Classic), optional A/C and stereo as well as an optional Track Pack which includes a partial roll cage, harness and fittings plus fire extinguisher (Europe only). The design will be completed by the 19" unique lightweight wheels. Regarding the performances we expect a sprint from 0 to 62 mph in just 4.6 seconds. Pricing will start from $66,330.[via planet-9]
