When the 2012 Range Rover Evoque starts selling in the U.S. in the fall, be ready to pay from $43,995 (including destination charges) for the five-door configuration and from $44,995 if you want the three-door model. This compact luxury SUV, Land Rover’s lightest model ever, weighs only 3,680 lbs in the five-door trim. The American-spec version is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four-cylinder engine from Ford that has an output of 240 hp and 251 lb-ft of torque.
The Evoque is equipped with a six-speed automatic and Haldex all-wheel drive as standard. The Evoque is much smaller than its siblings and is meant to be a sportier, on-road crossover. It’s also very stylish and is fitted with LED lighting, premium leather upholstery, and a flashy set of alloy wheels.
The reduced weight is the result of using aluminum chassis components and a plastic bodywork. It’s claimed that the Evoque could accelerate from zero to 60-mph in 7.1 seconds and it’s capable of reaching a top velocity of 135 mph. Land Rover estimates that it can offer fuel-economy ratings of 19/28 mpg (city/highway). There are reports that a hybrid version will be released later. The Evoque is a true global model and will be made available in 160 countries. The North American dealerships will receive the vehicles in the fall.
