2012 SEMA Show: Mazda CX-5 Dempsey Concept

Mazda CX-5 Dempsey Concept

Mazda named a new compact crossover after TV and movie actor Patrick Dempsey that it dubbed the CX-5 Dempsey. It is currently on display at the 2012 SEMA Show in Las Vegas. Dempsey got the honor for having raced competitively for many years. He has participated in the Rolex Grand Am series, behind the wheels of Mazda RX-8 race cars for a team he owns. The CX-5 Dempsey is based on Mazda’s new compact crossover and features matte black and “Anatomy Gray” paint with red detailing (obviously named after Dempsey’s hit show ‘Grey’s Anatomy’). The vehicle comes with a Bicycle S-Works Tarmac road bike and a Thule Atlantis rooftop cargo box. It rides on 20-inch black chrome wheels with red detailing while it also features a Racing Beat dual exhaust system. The cabin’s interior has been updated to feature new seating surfaces that use black perforated leather inserts and gray bolsters with red accents. In addition, leather was used to cover the steering wheel, shift boot, armrests, door panels and center storage bin with contrasting Luminous Red stitching throughout. Its most significant feature is its original powerplant. It comes with a new 2.2-liter diesel Skyactiv engine that delivers 173 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. Nonetheless, some may argue that this CX-5 crossover should have been made sportier or given more spectacular features.
