Suzuki’s new generation Swift Sport is on display at the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show. Unfortunately, it has received some criticism since it still is powered by the 1.6-liter naturally aspirated straight-four and has not been given an engine that’s more powerful. The old Suzuki Swift Sport is generally well-liked since it’s inexpensive and is a fun car but it doesn’t have an impressive fuel economy rating and it doesn’t do well on potholed streets.
What’s likeable about the new model shown at Frankfurt is that its power was raised from 125 to 135hp and its torque has been increased from 148 to 160 Nm (109 to 118 lb-ft). Suzuki said that the unit is more economical since it uses up 6.4 liter per 100 km (36.7 mph) rather than 7 liters (33.1 mph). It has emissions of 147 grams per km.
This isn’t the best in its class but it is a relatively pure car. Its power can be distributed to the front wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox rather than the five-speed that the old model had. This unit was created for the Swift Sport and so it comes with a triple-cone syncromesh in 1st and 2nd gears so that it has improved shifting. Production will be in Hungary and deliveries will begin in October. Suzuki hasn’t announced its pricing info yet but it’s still considered to be one of the most inexpensive ways to have sports car seats.
