The seventh generation Toyota Camry has been presented to the U.S. market. According to the North American division of Toyota, three powertrains will be offered. The first is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that develops 178hp and 170 lb.-ft. of peak torque. Then there’s a 3.5-liter V6 that’s offered in the SE and XLE grades, producing 268hp and 248 lb.-ft. of peak torque. The third is a Hybrid variant that uses a new 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. What comes as new to the 2012 Camry Hybrid is an EV Drive mode that enables the driver to operate the car on the electric motor purely for up to 1.6 miles at lower speeds (below about 25 mph).
When the electric is singly running the vehicle, the EV indicator illuminates. Six different model grades are offered for the all-new Camry and Camry Hybrid. Camry will be offered in the entry-level L, value-driven LE, premium XLE and sporty SE grades. Meanwhile, the XLE and SE are offered with four-cylinder or V6 engines and the Camry Hybrid comes with LE and XLE grades. Four new body colors are available. Two (Attitude Black Metallic and Clearwater Blue) of which are all-new to Toyota in the U.S. The 2012 version features a new dashboard design, revised seat locations, redesigned seats as well as a “lean” door, pillar and headliner trim.
The Camry LE and XLE grades are offered in either ivory or gray seating color. Meanwhile, the Camry SE comes with distinctive upholstery in black-on-black or black-on-gray. Four seat-covering materials are available in the 2012 Camry lineup. Fabric is offered in the LE and XLE. Fabric with SofTex is offered in the SE while standard leather trim is offered on the XLE V6 (optional in the XLE four-cylinder), and Ultrasuede with leather is available for the SE and XLE Hybrid. The XLE V6 is fitted with heated seats as standard but these are also available for SE, XLE four-cylinder and Hybrid with variable temperature control. In addition, two steering wheel designs that come with integrated audio and Bluetooth controls are featured. These are a four-spoke for LE, a leather-wrapped four-spoke for XLE, and for the SE, Toyota offers a sporty three-spoke, leather-wrapped wheel.
