Ford unveiled today at the 2011 LA Auto Show the all-new 2013 Escape, its newest sport utility vehicle (SUV) which will hit the market next year. Known as America’s best-selling SUV, the all-new Escape promises to offer 11 new exclusive features as well as a fuel economy, which will top any vehicle of its kind on the market today. Here are the features that Ford says you won’t find on any other SUV: first of all there is a hands-free power liftgate that will open the liftgate if it detects a gentle kicking motion under the center of the rear bumper; then we have the SYNC with MyFord Touch; the parallel parking will help you park the 2013 Escape with the press of a button; the sensor-based BLIS (Blind Spot Information System) with cross-traffic alert will help you driver safer; if you are driving too fast or need to accelerate through a turn, the Curve Control and Torque Vectoring Control will help you; moreover, the new Intelligent 4WD System helps deliver outstanding handling on pristine pavement and in adverse conditions.
Under the hood, we find a 2.0-liter EcoBoost or a 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine, which makes its American debut in the new Escape. Both engines are mated to a standard, specially calibrated, six-speed SelectShift Automatic transmissions. The standard engine in North America is an updated 2.5-liter, giving the new Escape a comprehensive lineup of four-cylinder offerings. It also is matched to a SelectShift Automatic six-speed.
"We call our all-new Ford Escape the 'Smarter Utility Vehicle' because it offers the strengths that customers today really value – fuel economy, versatility and new technology that makes driving and living with the vehicle easier and more fun – all wrapped in a sleek, more modern design," said Derrick Kuzak, group vice president, Global Product Development. "Ford understands that more people every year are looking at vehicles like Escape, and we want to give them even more reasons to buy."
