Hyundai Motor America presented its all-new 2013 Elantra GT to the North American market at the Chicago Auto Show. The Elantra lineup widens with the arrival of the five-door Elantra GT in dealerships this summer. It joins the Elantra Coupe, which recently made its global debut, and the popular Elantra sedan, which was named the 2012 North American Car of the Year. The Elantra GT is based on the new-generation i30 model intended for the European market. The 2013 Elantra GT goes up against the Ford Focus, Mazda3 and Volkswagen Golf, offering a bigger interior space than any of these rivals, unrivaled fuel economy and Hyundai’s Driver Selectable Steering Mode.
Powering the Elantra GT is a 1.8-liter Nu four-cylinder engine with 148hp and 131 lb-ft of torque (145hp and 130 lb-ft of torque for Elantra PZEV). Due to advanced clean engine technology, nearly all of the Elantra GTs sold in California, Oregon and several Northeast states are recognized as Partial Zero Emission Vehicles (PZEV) by the EPA. The 2013 Elantra GT features a six-speed manual (M6CF3-1) or automatic (A6GF1) transaxle with SHIFTRONIC manual control. Its six-speed manual transmission offers short, crisp shifts and optimizes engine performance even further. It offers a best-in-class standard fuel economy of 28 mpg city, 39 mpg highway (M/T).
The high standards of the Hyundai lineup are said to be the inspiration for the cabin refinements on the all-new Elantra GT. The available navigation system, which is found in the center console, is displayed with the use of a seven-inch touch-screen and comes with the rearview camera screen. Elantra GT’s rearview camera is like no other. This mechanized camera is concealed behind the Hyundai flying H badge on the rear hatch and only makes an appearance when necessary. The standard equipment on the Elantra GT includes a 172-watt AM/FM/Satellite Radio/CD/MP3 audio system that has six-speakers and iPod/USB/auxiliary input jacks. A Bluetooth interface is also offered as standard. The sound system offers compact discs and accesses digital music files through Bluetooth streaming audio. Drivers and passengers also get access to their personal listening devices via the iPod/USB/auxiliary inputs.
