2013 Lotus Elan and Esprit Concepts sent back to the drawing board

As you may know already, Lotus introduced the Elan and Esprit Concepts back in September, at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. Many of the people who saw them (including us) were speechless and expected to see a production version of these concepts. But, it appears that we will have to wait some more, as both concepts were sent back to the drawing board because they look so much alike. We have to admit, that the design is almost the same but we still like the two vehicles.
For those who don’t know, the Lotus Elan Concept uses a 4.0-liter V6 engine delivering up to 450 PS and 465 Nm of torque at 7,800 rpm. As expected, the car is mated to a 7-speed DCT transmission and can hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.5 seconds, while the top speed is limited at 310 km/h or 192 mph.
The Lotus Esprit Concept uses a more potent 5.0-liter V8 engine (found on the Lexus LFA) capable to deliver a total output of 620 hp and 720 Nm of torque. With these numbers, the Lotus Esprit Concept can hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 330 km or 205 mph. Both vehicles were expected as a 2013 model year, but now we are not so sure if the cars will make it until then!
