2013 Mazda CX-5 makes its U.S. debut at the 2011 LA Auto Show

Mazda North American Operations has launched its new 2013 CX-5 compact SUV at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The North American launch is the first Mazda to completely encompass SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY, which is the company's engineering-focused philosophy toward improving vehicle efficiency. The all-new model also boasts of best-in-class fuel economy in its segment. The CX-5 provides a preview into the new-generation vehicles of Mazda. It represents the perfect balance of the best of all worlds -- dynamic handling, captivating design, flexible functionality, first-class safety and surprising efficiency.
The automaker said that its exclusive SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY is not a trim level or package. It is a deeply embedded, all-encompassing belief that one does not have to sacrifice design, safety and fuel economy in order to achieve more power, miles per gallon and torque. The technology's first application was in the company's bestselling Mazda3, refurbished for 2012 with a SKYACTIV engine and transmissions.
The CX-5 is the first automobile to receive all SKYACTIV parts. Under an unrestrained hood, the SKYACTIV-G 2.0-liter gasoline engine is fitted. The SKYACTIV-G features the highest compression ratio in the world -- at 13:1 -- for a mass-produced automobile. With its all-new 4-2-1 exhaust system, the 2013 CX-5 provides 155 horsepower at 6,000 rpm, 150 lb-ft torque at 4,000 rpm and redline at 6500 rpm. With a selection of transmissions in either SKYACTIV-Drive six-speed automatic or the SKYACTIV-MT six-speed manual, an optional all-wheel drive and a 2,000-pound towing capacity, the 2013 CX-5 offers something for everyone. When equipped with SKYACTIV-Drive, the front-wheel drive model garners 26 city/32 highway. The all-wheel drive version, only available with SKYACTIV-Drive, also is a fuel sipper with an EPA rating of 25 city/30 highway.
