The 2013 Range Rover that will be arriving in the U.S. market in early 2013 will weigh about 600 pounds lighter than the current model since it has a new Jaguar Land Rover lightweight aluminum architecture. From spy images, we know that the long-wheelbase Range Rover is in development. It’s uncertain if the l longer Range Rover will be built and sold in the U.S. but it appears that the market is ready for it. The additional room in the long-wheelbase model will permit a third row of seats and will convert the Ranger Rover from a five-passenger SUV to a seven-passenger model. The additional passenger capacity will turn the new Range Rover into a more viable rival to the redesigned Mercedes-Benz GL, which is the No. full-sized luxury SUV in the U.S. market when it comes to sales.
SUV fans like the GL because of its practicality. It’s almost as long as the Mercedes-Benz S-class sedan, Mercedes' flagship. The new-generation 2013 GL that will go on sale has a length of 201.6 inches. Mostly young rich families have taken a liking to the GL. The length of the 2012 Range Rover is 195.8 inches. It is more expensive than the GL. The base Range Rover HSE has a starting price of $80,275, including destination, compared to $64,805 for the GL450.
There's a more affordable GL with a diesel engine but Range Rover doesn't sell diesels in the U.S. market. Since sales of the current Range Rover began in 2000, about 118,720 current-generation SUVs have delivered. Mercedes-Benz has sold 140,176 GLs since sales began in 2006. However, Cadillac’s vehicle is even bigger. The ESV, the long-wheelbase version of the Cadillac Escalade, is 222.9 inches long. It is expected to be redesigned and presented in the second half of 2013 as part of a revamp of GM's full-sized pickup and SUV program. P.S.
