2013 Scion FR-S makes world debut at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show

The third and final version of the Toyota-Subaru collaboration -- the 2013 Scion FR-S -- has finally been unveiled at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show. The excitement has been building up ever since the Toyota GT 86 and the Subaru BRZ were revealed previously. What the FR-S stands for is Front-engine, Rear-wheel drive, Sport – standing for the brand’s definition of a real rear-wheel-drive sports car.
It comes as no surprise that the vehicle is equipped with the same 2.0-liter, naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine used on the GT 86 and the BRZ. It is expected to have an output of 200hp and 151 pound-feet of torque. Toyota’s innovative D-4S injection system is what these new engines use. They use both direct and port injection and they are aiming to offer an excellent fuel economy.
Its low center of gravity is similar to several exotic cars. In addition, the new FR-S has a dynamically favorable front-to-rear weight ratio of 53:47. This engine is coupled to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission but the power is transferred to the road through a limited-slip differential. To match the low weight, the FR-S has a dynamically tuned suspension setup, which includes MacPherson struts up front and a double wishbone system in the rear. The car is fitted with lightweight 17-inch alloy wheels and also comes with ventilated disc brakes.
