2014 Ford Mustang will be a very cool car, says global design vice president

Ford is building anticipation for the Mustang’s 50th anniversary model that will arrive four years from now. Ford said that this next-generation Mustang will be "very cool.” In an interview with J Mays, vice president of Ford's global design and chief creative officer, at the Paris Motor Show, we learned that the upcoming Mustang will be “a jump forward” as opposed to the 2010 Mustang, which was an evolution of the 2005 car's retro-styling.
Mays said that the Mustang DNA won’t be lost but that the carmaker will send out a signal that “Mustang has got another 50 years of life left in it." Mays added that Ford will “have to take a bit more of a stretch with the car,” which might mean that the 2014 Mustang will be breaking from its solid axle roots.
The Mustang already has excellent handling capabilities, but with an independent rear suspension, it could offer even more lateral grip and ride refinement. It’s also speculated that direct-injection and Ford's PowerShift dual-clutch transmission will be featured on the next Mustang. [via AutomobileMag]
