The 2.5-liter Skyactiv 4-cylinder engine will be offered as an option on the 2014 Mazda6, according to a source who attended a Mazda dealer meeting in Chicago. It has been said by many consumers that the 2013 Mazda CX-5 with its 2.0-liter Skyactiv engine doesn’t really offer much power. This engine has an output of 155 hp and 150 lb-ft of torque, making it have a bit more power than the version in the 2012 Mazda3. It is the leader in its segment when it comes to fuel economy but it doesn’t have the impact of many of its rivals. A source said that Mazda aims to resolve this problem with a larger engine with more power. It will be available as an option. The 2.5-liter Skyactiv 4-cylinder that will be introduced in the 2014 Mazda6 delivers nearly 170hp with equal torque. It features the automaker’s fun-to-drive traits. It’s not yet known if Mazda intends to offer the CX-5 with a diesel powertrain option. The source also said that the new Skyactiv-D diesel engine will be available in the Mazda6 in October of 2013.
