2015 Chevrolet Equinox will get smaller, push the Trax out of the U.S.

2013 Chevrolet Trax

About 140 markets worldwide will get the all-new Trax SUV from Chevrolet but don’t expect it to be offered in the U.S. This is because the automaker thinks that the next-generation Equinox would be more than sufficient for the consumers in the U.S. GM InsideNews sources said that the Trax is based on the Buick Encore. Under GM‘s Delta architecture, we learned that the next Equinox, which is smaller, will serve as the replacement of the Captiva. With this change in architecture, GM will be able to build the Equinox in other continents easily. Even if GM doesn’t intend to offer the Trax to the U.S. anytime soon because of its similarities with the Equinox, this model is federalized to be available in the U.S. if GM changes its mind. GM believes that presently, the Trax is more appropriate for its other markets around the globe where there is more fragmentation in the crossover segment. It’s likely that the next-generation Equinox will be released in 2015. [source: AutoGuide]
