35,000 2009 Pontiac G8 recalled by GM

2009 Pontiac G8Besides the announcement by GM that it will discontinue the Pontiac brand, the latter is currently undergoing new crises in the US. A design glitch in the tire pressure monitoring system has affected 35,038 of the Pontiac G8 cars produced in 2008 and 2009.

The General is recalling these cars for non-compliance with the requirements of the FMV Standard #108 which concerns lamps, reflective devices and related elements and also FMV Standard #138 which covers the tire pressure monitoring system. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), which issued the notifications, further said that the brake pedal position switch may have been programmed incorrectly causing the brake lights to remain illuminated, thereby failing to warn the following driver when the brake is applied. They have also discovered that some of the cars may have the wrong values programmed into the tire monitoring system which prevents the warning light from illuminating during low tire pressure conditions, but will only do so when the tire pressure falls far below the standard values required.
