Gumpert Apollo

After three years of series production which was started in Altenburg, Thuringia, the 40th Apollo came out of the plant. And during moments of economic and financial downturn, Roland Gumpert, the founder and managing director of the company, and his 45-man crew, are looking at the approaching year with hopefulness, as the success story of Gumpert has only started. Sufficient cause to check experience history and to ascertain why this super-sportsman is so captivated with the griffin as an emblem? "The most exciting car to ever wear number plates", was the headline in Autocar, the British publication, in early summer 2005. The apollo is an insurgent among supercars, and the numbers demonstrate this. It comes with 8 cylinders, 650 hp, 850 Newton meters and a peak speed in excess of 300 km/h. But this vehicle isn't totally lacking in external beauty either. From its double wing doors, gigantic air vents or the huge spoiler for extra downforce, the apollo makes it completely clear: form follows function. And succeeds in making it!
