Acura diesel on hold for the moment due to commercial causes

It is intended by Honda to inaugurate a clean diesel to the US market next year. The latest 2.2 liter diesel unit is already offered in the European Honda Accord which is being sold in the US as the Acura TSX.
At Detroit Auto Show this year, Acura made public that the engine would be inaugurated next year but talks this fall showed the program had been postponed or discontinued because of technical difficulties. It was reported that Honda was experiencing trouble in passing emissions with its automatic transmission variant of the TSX.According to Honda's America spokesman, Marie Sage, the program is currently in the "wait and see" status and the postponement is because of commercial, not technical, causes. A mixture of factors, as well as the continuing high prices for diesel fuel and the overall collapse of car sales in previous months, was pointed out as the dilemma. With the going down of all volumes of cars, Honda is hesitant to launch what is anticipated to be a low volume unit. Rather, the firm will observe both the overall market and particularly the sales of diesel and make the necessary adjustments.
