2013 Acura RDX

Acura has introduced the second-generation RDX crossover with a new transmission, engine and all-wheel-drive system at the Chicago Motor Show. Now, a 3.5-liter V-6 engine is replacing the turbocharged 2.3-liter from last year's RDX. The new engine delivers 273 hp, which is 33 hp more than the outgoing model. Moreover, the RDX has a new six-speed automatic transmission, which has a new lockup torque converter. The new all-wheel-drive system weighs less than the old unit. Fuel economy in the front-drive variant is around 28 mpg on the highway and 20 mpg in the city. On the other hand, the all-wheel-drive variants get slightly less, specifically at 27 mpg on the highway and 19 mpg in the city.

Acura states that the RDX has the best fuel economy of any gasoline-powered luxury SUV in its class. The 2013 RDX has a four-wheel independent suspension with a multilink setup at the back and MacPherson struts in front. It is a tick wider and longer compared to last year's model, with a lower center of gravity. The RDX gets Acura's Amplitude Reactive Dampers that adjust to the terrain and a new electric power-steering system, just like the new ILX sedan.

Acura made changes to the interior of the RDX. It now has more sound-deadening material, more passenger room, larger door openings, an available power tailgate and increased cargo space. New technologies added are a three-view rear camera, Pandora radio and a text-message feature. The Technology package even has more electronics. Aside from the surround-sound audio, the RDX gets navigation with voice recognition, AcuraLink communications and weather and traffic information. The new navigation system utilizes a hard drive for map storage. It has an extra 15 gigabytes for music. The 2013 Acura RDX will be manufactured at the company's plant in East Liberty, Ohio. Pricing will be disclosed when the spring on-sale date is near.
