Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos is Seat’s new design chief

Volkswagen Group has named Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos as the new design chief at VW’s Seat brand effective Aug. 1. Currently working as design director at Renault Samsung Motors, Mesonero-Romanos will succeed Luc Donckerwolke, who will become VW Group's head of advanced design and will be directly reporting to VW Group Design Chief Walter de Silva. Mesonero-Romanos, a Spanish native, graduated from the Royal College of Art in London.

He used to work for VW Group from 1995 and 2001 and was involved in designing several models at Seat. He was also in charge of exterior design on various projects for the Seat, Audi and Volkswagen brands prior to his move to Renault in 2001, serving as head of advanced design in 2007.

In 2009, he was named design boss of Renault Samsung Motors. On the other hand, Donckerwolke, studied in Brussels and Switzerland. In 1992, he joined VW from Peugeot as an exterior designer at Audi. In 1998, he transferred to Lamborghini as design project manager. In 2003, he was named Lamborghini's design chief. In 2005, he moved to Seat, holding a similar role.
