Alfa Romeo introduces new engines for the Brera and Spider models

Buyers of the Alfa Romeo Brera and Spider will now have the option between the 200bhp 1750 TBi petrol and the 170bhp 2.0 JTDM diesel engines. It can be recalled that when these engines were introduced to the Alfa 159 range late last year, they got positive reviews. The 1750 TBi unit boasts of having turbocharging, direct injection and variable valve timing; and being able to deliver 200bhp from 1742cc and 236lb ft from only 1400rpm. The Brera and Spider can accelerate from zero to 62mph in 7.7 and 7.8 sec respectively, before hitting a top speed of 146mph. Emissions are 189g/km for the Brera and 192g/km for the Spider.
Buyers would be pleased to know that routine maintenance intervals for the engine are set at every 21,000 miles. On the other hand, the 2.0 JTDM is able to generate 265lb ft from 1750rpm, with the Brera and Spider moving from 0-62mph in 8.8 and 9.0sec respectively.
Top speed for both cars is 135mph and their CO2 emissions are 142g/km. In addition, the service interval is every 21,000 miles. Both cars also get a new trim level, the Italia Independent. These cars will have a matt black finish, 18-inch black alloys, red brake calipers and an Alfa 8C inspired aluminum fuel cap. For its interior, it gets a leather steering wheel, leather seats, red stitching, carbonfiber trim inserts, aluminum pedals and a combined radio and sat-nav system.
