Alfa Romeo MiTo 1.4 MultiAir revealed

2010 Alfa Romeo MiTo MultiairAlfa Romeo launched today the 1.4l MultiAir engine choice for the MiTo – offered in three power levels - 105 hp, 135 hp and 170 hp. Pricing has not been announced yet but the Italian manufacturer said that only two of the three engine versions will be made available initially, with the 135 and 105 hp versions to be available for all the MiTo range outfits.

The third, the 170 hp unit, will arrive later, together with the new and unique “Quadrifoglio Verde” outfit. Each of the engines will be paired with a manual gearbox with either 5 or 6 gears. The 1.4l MultiAir engines provide 10% more power and 10% more fuel efficiency than a traditional petrol engine with the same displacement. More details and photos after the jump!

According to Fiat Powertrain Technologies data, particulates drop by up to 40% and NOx levels are reduced to half. For instance, the mid-range 1.4 Turbobenzina 135 hp engine allows for a 0-60 sprint “at the very top of the mini category.”

CO2 emission levels for this engine are recorded at 129g/km of CO2, while fuel consumption rating is at 5.6l/100 km. The biggest of the three — the 1.4 MultiAir Turbobenzina 170 hp unit — provides 39 g/km of CO2 and 4.8 l/100km over the extraurban cycle, while the smallest, the 105 HP 1.4 power unit, “ensures full involvement at the wheel.” The new engines are indeed appealing but the recognized star of the new MiTo addition is the Start&Stop system, used for the first time on an Alfa Romeo. With new engines come new colors, including the new metallic shade Tornado Blue.
