Alfa Romeo MiTo receives the new MultiAir revolutinary engine

Alfa Romeo MiToThere are recent reports saying that beginning this September the Italian carmaker Fiat will be releasing its radical MultiAir powerplant on the Alfa Romeo Mito.

They will be introducing a family of 1.4-liter turbo gasoline powerplants which have been created to boost power and torque levels by 10 percent while cutting fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions by 10 percent also. The new powerplant comes equipped with an electro-hydraulic valve control system that cuts fuel-consumption with its direct air control through the powerplant’s suction valves, while the throttle is not utitilzed. In the same way, carbon dioxide levels are cut by the use of a more efficient combustion control. The carmaker claims that the technology can be adapted to any gasoline powerplant, with a development potential for diesel units also. There will be three different power levels for the 1.4-liter unit, including 105bhp, 135bhp and 170bhp. Matching gearboxes include both five and six-speed. The top of the line 170bhp unit will only be offered for the Quadrifoglio Verde, a special edition Mito. Included also in the MultiAir powerplant, which is a first in the Mito range, is a Start/Stop system. Currently in the works is a two-cylinder turbocharged MultiAir unti which is 20 percent lighter and has a 25 percent smaller footprint compared to a four-pot version but can still yield the same potency.
