Alfa Romeo to unveil three new models at the Geneva Motor Show

Sources say that there will be a trio of fresh takes on the next-generation replacement for the 159 sedan. Inside Line heard from a Turin source that these are not related to the Giulietta, which replaces the long-lived 147 compact and is set to come to the US in 2011. The all-important future replacement for the 159 is expected to adopt the classic Alfa Romeo model name. The source also revealed that at the Geneva Motor Show, the Turin design houses (Stile Bertone, Pininfarina and Italdesign Giugiaro) will create a version of the new midsize model to be shown at their respective stands.
Bertone is expected to create the two-door coupe body while Pininfarina is believed to make the convertible, and Italdesign Giugiaro for the four-door sedan breadwinner. These design renditions were intentionally set to coincide with Alfa Romeo's centenary.
The inaugural 24-horsepower model from A.L.F.A. (Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili) rolled off the line in a 300-unit run at the Portello factory in Milan in 1910. Alfa Romeo considers the 159 replacement to be vital to its success worldwide. It should be followed very soon after by the also-important replacement for the full-size 169. It has yet to be confirmed whether the Chrysler or Dodge brands will be getting their own models from this new chassis.
