After Rolls-Royce unveiled the Sweptail at the 2017 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in Italy, X-Tomi Design now reimagines the most expensive car ever built as a convertible. Yes, it’s the same controversial Rolls-Royce with a price tag of $13 million commissioned by a special client!
Having been inspired by the yachts and swept tail models between the 1920s and 1930s, the client requested Rolls-Royce to make a car with surfaces similar to the hull of a yacht.
As for Xtomi’s latest interpretation, the Sweptail convertible nearly has all the footings of a Phantom Drophead Coupe. Albeit the fact that the coachbuilder has already rolled out its “Last of Last” edition in Saudi Arabia just the previous month. To best describe the Sweptail, the coupe’s massive bodywork with exceptionally designed boat tail comes with panoramic glass roof and extravagant interior that can only seat two people. How do existing Bentley owners access or avail of this concierge service? First step is to download the Bentley Network app, and then owners are asked to validate their account. Once the app is downloaded and the account validated, the users may then browse through an extensive range of luxury Bentley models available and reserve their choice and specify a convenient location for the delivery. An hour before delivery, a “courteous reminder” of the said reservation is sent to the customer and prior to the arrival of the vehicle, the customer is once again notified prior to the arrival of the vehicle to inform them of the concierge’s (and the car’s) arrival. Behold, the Rolls-Royce Sweptail! The Sweptail is probably the biggest two-seater car that has ever been built. It may look odd at first glance, and you may not be fond of its design, especially the front end of the car, but it’s true that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. This specific model was exclusively built for a “Rolls-Royce connoisseur” so it you aren’t one, then this car won’t probably be attractive to you.
We don’t know the identity of the person who made this car possible, but without a doubt he is powerful enough to have Rolls-Royce build him a single car with his own design in mind, and that he has at least nine zeros in his bank account. Though the company did not reveal who the individual was, we know that it is a guy because that’s what they said in the press release. He was described as a “connoisseur and collector of distinctive, one-off items including super-yachts and private aircraft”.
The buyer went up to the company and asked them to build a car that was inspired by the 1920s and 1930s Rolls-Royce, which explains the extravagant shape reminding us of a vintage Rolls-Royce Boat Tail speedster. The individual had worked with the company for years on the design of the car, turning the ride into a two-seater with a wood mid-shelf replacing the back seats that feature an illuminated glass lip. There is also a polished wood hat shelf with luggage rails covered by a teardrop-shaped glass roof, giving a bright and airy cockpit. On the front and rear ends, are polished “08” badges. We do know that a few people are not into animal leather. In today’s world, more and more people are learning to stay away from leather or anything that would cost an animal’s life, and veganism is not just limited to what we consume.

Bentley is way ahead of its competitors and according to Stefan Sielaff, Director of Design, the company has already been exploring several vegan-friendly options for upholsteries and trims. This is part of their plan to produce more eco-friendly vehicles in the near future, and by that I don’t just mean hybrid or electric vehicles, though that is still part of the plan.
During the Financial Times Future of the Car Summit, Sielaff said that “you can’t sell an animal containing product like a Bentley, with 20 leather hides, to someone with a vegan lifestyle” - and clearly, this is where their idea rooted from. These customers ask the company for leather alternatives that they can offer, so if they want to make a sale, then they will have to keep up with changing trends. Genesis Motors, the luxury vehicle division of South Korean manufacturer Hyundai Motor Company, takes a step further from their usual designs as they unveiled the G90 Special Edition - a vehicle that represents a marriage of luxury and technology. Hyundai also announced new developments at the latest Seoul Motor Show this week.
Dressed in a two-tone paint finish, the G90 Special Edition showcased three different versions. The first one came in a metallic brown and matte grey combo, the other one was a matte grey and silver, and last but not the least, a metallic blue and solid white finish - all of these colour combinations were “inspired by a finely-tailored gentleman’s pin-stripe suit” according to the company.
We strongly feel like the South Korean automaker is shying away from conservative designs and instead is leaning towards something different this time. The Special Edition vehicle features an upgraded interior with Nubuck leather trim, accent stitching, upgraded carpeting, and more. While each of them has a hand-painted coach line running all around the sides of the vehicle’s exterior. At first glance, you would think it is a Bentley. You’ll just be surprised that it is a Genesis when you have a closer look. Rolls-Royce is well-known for displaying superior engineering quality in its models and for focusing on luxury cars. Despite being the symbol of elegance, one customer was apparently not satisfied and asked the automaker to have a customized version that is clearly ahead of the others. Fortunately, Rolls-Royce agreed to do the work and even better, the customer agreed to have it displayed during the 2017 Geneva Motor Show.
Using the Ghost as a base version, the custom-made one is called the Ghost Elegance. So what makes this truly unique then? Well in addition to having the wheelbase extended, this limousine is covered in paint made from real diamonds. Dubbed as Diamond Stardust, the process of making this special paint involved crushing thousands of diamonds. It comes as no surprise then that the end product has the luster and glamor that is truly unmatched.
According to Rolls-Royce, this special finish is a result of two months of work done by specialists who looked at diamonds using microscopes in order to know how they would interact with the light. The fine diamond powder that they made was then mixed to clear paint. An addition layer of lacquer was then applied to it in order for it to have a smooth finish. While the release of the Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet signaled the end of the G-Wagen, the good news is that this also marks the beginning of a new range. For the next model to come out of this range, Peisert Design is offering a glimpse into this lavish and long sedan.
Conceived by none other than Jan Peisert, he dubs this as the Mercedes-Maybach 850 Landaulet. Using the Mercedes-Maybach S600 sedan as a basis, he adds in the exceptional cues of the Maybach 6 concept, the same car presented in April 2016. This combination results in a concept that has long overhangs in the front and the rear section while having an elegant form worthy of the Maybach name.
Looking at the front, the grille comes with a style that brings to mind the Maybach 6 Concept. There are vertical chrome inserts which are highlighted with the illuminated Maybach logo and which show if the car is in normal driving mode or under the "Chauffeur" mode. Instead of using mirrors, there are now rear view cameras resulting in the aerodynamics being improved. Bentley once again confirmed its plans to push PHEV into their future lineups. As a matter of fact, the Bentayga SUV will be the first to have the plugin hybrid technology, which will also be using a V6 engine. Next on the line would be none other than the new generation Bentley Continental GT. And there’s more to come.
During a recent press interview with Automotive News, Wolfgang Duerheimer reiterated the fact that plugin hybrids no longer serve as “temporary bridge technology”. Instead, it now offers the best features of both cars with internal combustion engine as well as those of electric powered vehicles.

Things are looking good at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars as the British luxury carmaker impressed by posting a six-percent jump in deliveries in 2016. Rolls-Royce’s 2016 deliveries of 4,011 units in the full year 2016 was the carmaker’s second highest annual sales ever, showing that the luxury marque is still one of the most sought in over 50 countries around the world.
The carmaker posted record sales in single markets like Japan (plus 51 percent), Germany (plus 30 percent) and the United Kingdom (plus 26 percent). Rolls-Royce also surpassed previous sales high in China (plus 23 percent) and the United States (plus 10 percent). Rolls-Royce also logged record sales in several global markets. It managed to grow its deliveries in 2016 in the Americas by 12 percent, Europe by 28 percent, and Asia Pacific by five percent.
However, the British luxury carmaker failed to make significant advances in the Middle East, no thanks to economic and political uncertainty in the region that lowered demand for all luxury goods. Nonetheless, the Middle East was Rolls-Royce’s third largest market in 2016. Daimler Group CEO Dr. Dieter Zetsche somehow confirmed that there will be a new SUV in their lineup. This announcement came from the CEO himself while on a press meeting at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show. Unfortunately, he didn’t go over the details. According to Zetsche, “I’d like to say you will be seeing it, but I’ll leave it at that.”
According to rumors, the luxury SUV will be wearing a Maybach badge. If that’s the case, the SUV will be among Mercedes’ Maybach division which also includes the limited edition S650 Cabriolet. For sure, not everyone would be pleased with the idea but some people would also want an SUV with all the luxurious appointments. Even if it gets delayed for a few more years, we think a Mercedes-Maybach SUV would be more than amazing.

Audi is bent on building a full electric version for the 2018 Audi A8 model. This next generation of Audi A8 is currently under development and will be the series’ fourth instalment to date. Audi will be releasing the full details of the SUV sometime by the end of next year.
Much has been said about the new A8 and how it will be taking its cue from Audi’s Prologue concept vehicles. Thus, we can get a good picture of it somehow. Technically speaking, the upcoming Audi A8 will be using the MLB evo blueprint otherwise known as the MLB 2. Some Bentley Bentayga vehicle models have already used the same architecture as with the Volkswagen Group’s A4 and Q7.
Soon after Audi introduces the new A8 model, the German brand will shift their attention to manufacturing the Audi e-tron in Belgium. The e-Tron is Audi’s first all-electric vehicle. Ford revealed that the luxury versions of its Edge and Kuga SUVs are expected to hit the different European markets. Under the Vignale lineup, Ford is more than determined to entice customers to shy away from choosing the standard premium brands. In order to achieve this goal, the brand will be offering both the Edge and the Kuga under exclusive specifications that make use of materials having high quality. Examples of these, to name a few, are the unique colors for the exterior, the use of the Windsor tuxedo-stitched leather for the interior, and the upscale detailing. Ford will even be offering a grille that comes in a hexagonal design and that are exclusive for the Vignale range.
In terms of power delivery, the Kuga Vignale will offer the EcoBoost 1.5-liter petrol engine with one version capable of delivering output of 150 PS (148 hp) and the second having output of 182 PS (179 hp). The latter engine though will be paired solely with the AWD and the automatic 6-speed transmission. Offered as well are the TDCi 2.0-liter diesel engine with one displaying an output of 150 PS (148 hp) and the other 180 PS (177 hp). Unlike the petrol engine, both diesel units are offered, as an option, the AWD and automatic 6-speed transmission. Meanwhile the Edge Vignale will have two powertrains, both powered by diesel. The first is the TDCi 2.0-liter engine with output of 177 hp and paired to the manual 6-speed transmission. Meanwhile the second unit is the TDCi 1.0-liter twin-turbo engine having an output of 207 hp and coupled with the brand’s very own automatic Powershift twin-clutch transmission.
In terms of size, the Edge is larger when compared to the Kuga and some features include alloy 19-inch wheels polished in aluminum, the front grille having a dark matter finish, and the fog lamps finished in chrome. This year marks the 100th anniversary of BMW. To mark its centennial year, the German carmaker is releasing the BMW 7 Individual Series THE NEXT 100 YEARS, a 7 Series special edition. BMW is collaborating with luxury writing instruments manufacturer Montblanc in fulfilment of the BMW 7 Series THE NEXT 100 YEARS. However, no pricing and availability details have been disclosed yet.
With its centenary offering, BMW highlights how much it values design and detail. Globally, only 100 models will be included in the BMW 7 Series THE NEXT 100 YEARS, making it highly special. Buyers can choose among three different engine options depending on the market.
Currently, the only model available is the BMW 750Li powered by a 4.4-liter petrol V8 engine. The new BMW X7 crossover will be available in two versions -- a seven-seater and a $100,000-plus uber-luxurious X7 four-seater. According to BMW brand sales chief Ian Robertson, the super-luxurious X7 is part of the German carmaker’s expansion plans for its GKL (Grand Klasse) models that already include the redesigned 7-series sedan.
Both X7 versions will feature a look distinct from the BMW X5 large crossover. He announced that BMW is planning to add more GKL models, but fell short of confirming the rumored 9 series.
Robertson, however, disclosed another model is well under way and BMW plans to unveil it in the not too distant future. Ford offered us a glimpse of what the company’s future top-end SUVs could look like with its recently unveiled Ford Kuga concept seen at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. Ford’s Kuga Vignale Concept dazzled the European audience with its Vignale Palazzo Pearl exterior with a tarnished dark paint finish for the front and rear skid plates, foglamp surrounds and door appliqués while the car’s grille and foglamp inserts done in gloss black.
A suede look was pulled off by the window pillar interiors and headliner enriched with Alcantara material while an Opale dark grey pearl-effect finish was applied to the car’s centre console. In addition, its armrest storage console and glove box had been lined with flock, highlighting the SUV’s premium quality. Historically, Ford Kuga customers always preferred the higher end variant of the car, with a recorded 4 in 5 of the 102,000 Kugas sold in 2015 being Titanium models.
According to industry sales analyst IHS, the trend for this luxury preference could increase to 27 percent of all vehicle sales in Europe by 2020. This is a big jump from the recorded 20 percent luxury variants sold in 2014.
