The Fate of the Furious trailer shows Dom as the villain [w/video]

We hope we got it wrong. Dominic Toretto or “Dom” has turned into a bad guy judging from the latest trailer of Fast and the Furious. Furious fans know that Vin Diesel’s role has always been the good guy. But as his fate has it, he’s apparently turned his back on his family in the movie. That certainly doesn’t look good.

Interestingly, the 8th instalment from the blockbuster film franchise has been named “The Fate of the Furious”. So there must be a lot of twists happening here and there as there is also a submarine. Since “family” has been mentioned more than once, we can expect the story to pick up from there.

From the looks of it, there’s obviously an element of “betrayal”. The poster says it all. It even comes with a statement saying “Family no more” with Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel turning away from each other. Dom’s “family” as we all know are also his friends/crew in the movie.

In the previous instalments, Diesel’s character has referred to his family as the most important people in the world. Fans of the movie will definitely get furious with Dom’s disloyalty.

But we’re hoping this is simply done to add a bit of drama to the story. But we couldn’t deny the fact that it got us all excited. Good thing, the late Paul Walker was briefly shown in the trailer on a photograph. At least for old time’s sake, we hope Dom changes his mind about being bad.

The three-minute trailer shows Dom working in conspiracy with a new villain named Cipher. And for some strange reasons, the gorgeous Charlize Theron portrays Cipher’s role. Jason Statham on the other hand has joined forces with the same crew that turned him down. Perhaps it has something to do with Dom’s apparent betrayal.

Kurt Russell is also back and could be playing an influential role. Surprisingly, Helen Mirren for the first time got a role from this movie. Though she didn’t appear in the trailer, she’s probably Theron’s mom. Mirren had always wanted to be part of the franchise but we couldn’t imagine her being part of the “crew” doing stunts and all that. So maybe a mother role would do?

“The Fate of the Furious” will be coming top theatres this April 14, 2017. Aside from the usual supercars, the movie also features as we said earlier, a submarine. There are also military vehicles and tanks. The trailer shows a sight of Cuba so this could be very exciting as far as streetcar racing is concerned.

Lightning McQueen suffers big crash in new Cars 3 trailer

The last time we saw Lightning McQueen in the second installment of CG-animated film Cars, he was racing with Francesco and Mater at the Radiator Springs Grand Prix. That was years ago, and at that time, he was at the peak of his game with no one seemingly able to best him in the circuit, having won the Piston Cups several times already.

Now, McQueen is back, and wrecked! Yes, Pixar has just released a short trailer – and the first official teaser -- for the third installment of Cars. It shows McQueen back in the United States and competing in the speedway. While he still has some strong showing – at one point he was leading the pack – the trailer reveals that his days of Piston Cup dominance could be over. At another point, a seemingly aggressive new challenger is making his way through the throngs of racers (could be Jackson Storm, a rookie who has trounced McQueen).

According to Pixar, a new generation of car racers has made their way onto the circuit and is simply making McQueen more irrelevant. At the end of the trailer, McQueen suffers another blown-out tire – or possibly mechanical issues – and ends up crashing in the mid of the speedway.

Not a few – especially McQueen fans -- had their hearts crushed upon seeing their speedster hero crashing. As far as we could remember, a crash ended the era of Strip "The King" Weathers, a seven-time champion of the Piston Cup. A crash also ended the career of McQueen’s mentor Doc “The Fabulous Hudson Hornet” Hudson, himself a three-time Piston Cup winner. In Cars 3, McQueen is now the veteran, with awesome rookies and a crash putting him seemingly close to retiring.

Of course, it is pretty disappointing to see McQueen being outclassed by a new generation of cars. In the real world, however, this is the sad truth. Older cars are left to eat dust by the new ones, especially those laden with newer innovations, technologies and more advanced materials. Nonetheless, careful tweaks and thorough modifications could make older cars become better performers. In fact, some cars could be injected with newer techs, allowing them to be as competitive as the new generations of autos.

Now back to McQueen. It is not too late for a comeback. According to Pixar, McQueen takes inspiration from Doc Hudson, who after his crash was able to fully recover though he wasn’t able to race again because he was dropped by his sponsors. Perhaps, Rusteeze has remained all supportive of McQueen, who didn’t abandon the brand in Cars 1 when Dinoco approached him for a change of sponsorship. In Cars 3, McQueen will do a “Doc Hudson” by coming back to his game with the help of a female race technician named Cruz Ramirez.

Cars 3 arrives on the big screen in Summer 2017.

Futuristic Lexus Skyjet to appear in Luc Besson’s Valerian Sci-fi action film

Lexus travels into space in probably the much-awaited sci-fi movie this 2017. The film, “Valerian and the City of A Thousand Planets” is Luc Besson’s adaptation of a French comic book series. The European motion picture is set in a highly unusual intergalactic world known as the Alpha city. Thus, a high-tech space vehicle is an inevitable choice. Luc Besson’s sci-fi tale will be featuring Clive Owen, Ethan Hawke and Rihanna while Cara Delevingne and Dane DeHann will be playing the major role as space agents.

Interestingly, the single-seat space craft designed by Europacorp and Lexus bears a close resemblance to Lexus’ upcoming model. The SkyJet’s triangular headlamps and spindle nose grille are obviously inspired by the new LC500 Coupe. We couldn’t help but wonder if Lexus will be building real space ships in the next 700 years. The SkyJet as we know is only a fictional flying machine since it is envisioned for the 28th century. Though we won’t be there when it happens, at least we can get a hold of Lexus’ latest LC500 Coupe.

Designing the SkyJet has required Besson and his team to consult Takeaki Kato, Lexus’ Chief Engineer for advise. Europacorp is a film and television studio where Luc Besson (the director) is also the founder. Besson fondly shared his thoughts about their partnership with Lexus. He admired the brand for centering its technology and innovation towards the future. Their teamwork has nevertheless brought the most futuristic design for a spacecraft that would fit the story’s 28th century setting. The modern design cues very much represent the “Valerian era”, which is projected 700 years ahead of our time.

David Nordstrom, Lexus’ Global Branding Department GM expressed his gratitude for being part of Luc Besson’s futuristic film. According to Nordstrom, Lexus is honoured to make Besson’s dream into reality and that they have enjoyed the challenge it has brought to their brand. This inspires them to deliver the most advanced design philosophy and technology innovations in their upcoming engagements.

Europacorp has also produced blockbuster films such as “The Transporter”, “Lucy” as well as the movie “Taken”. Its latest films include “Renegades” featuring JK Simmon and Sullivan Stapleton, “Miss Sloane” which stars Jessica Chastain and “Shut In” with Naomi Watts. “Valerian and the City of A Thousand Planets” will come out in cinemas this July 2017. In the meantime, you can watch the recently released trailer to catch a glimpse of the glorious SkyJet flying in the outer space.

Aston Martin DB5 tops ‘Favorite Bond Car’ survey in the UK

The James Bond series is probably the longest running spy series that started way back in 1963 with the first movie Dr. No. There have been more than twenty instalments released since the first movie, each one possessing the same spy-induced excitement as the rest of the movies.

The thrill and excitement in every series attract the audience but it cannot be denied that the different types of vehicles driven by Agent 007 draws in the crowds too. The James Bond series is probably one of the movies that are popularly watched especially because of the variety of vehicles featured.

Even when most of the luxury cars featured in the movies would probably meet an unfortunate end (like fall off a cliff or explode in one of 007’s race against time adventures), people like the thrill of seeing an Aston Martin or a Ford Mustang sprint in full speed on a race against one of 007’s rivals.

British price comparison site GoCompare recently conducted a poll on 2,000 random British drivers and asked them to pick their favorite Bond car. Despite Agent 007 driving the likes of a Sunbeam Alpine and a BMW Z8, it seems like the Brits have got some taste for the classics and so the results were heavily skewed towards the Aston Martin DB5.

The Bond car made its first appearance in 1964 on “Goldfinger” which starred Sean Connery for the role of the popular British spy. He was also seen driving the said car in the movie “Thunderball”. The Aston Martin DB5 was also driven by Pierce Brosnan when he played the role of 007 in the movie “GoldenEye” and “Tomorrow Never Dies” and also in the most recent installments with the new James Bond Daniel Craig in “Casino Royale” and “Skyfall”.

The latest sighting of the said vehicle was in the 2015 “Spectre” (also driven by Daniel Craig) for which its classic gadgets were still working pretty well to fend off Agent 007’s attackers. Being in seven of more than twenty Bond movies, it is no wonder that the Aston Martin DB5 has been chosen as the top favorite amongst the Bond cars.

Of course there have been other Bond cars and coming in at second place on this list is the 2015 Aston Martin DB10 Concept that appeared in “Spectre”. The other cars that came in the top 7 are the following: on third place is the 2007-2012 Aston Martin DBS V12 which was used for “Casino Royale” and “Quantum of Solace”; the 1969 Aston Martin DBS in “Her Majesty’s Secret Service” came in fourth; the 1971 Ford Mustang Mach 1 in “Diamonds are Forever” and the 2002 Aston Martin V12 Vanquish in “Die Another Day” came in fifth and sixth place, respectively; and the 1976 Lotus Esprit in “The Spy Who Loved Me” came in seventh place. Judging from this list, it looks like Aston Martin has done a great job in creating some of the most memorable Bond cars in movie and automobile history.

Almost a decade ago, Director Michael Bay first set off the journey into the world of robots through the Transformers franchise. Since 2007, there have been four instalments of the said film, drawing fans and critics alike.

Admit it or not, we have been drawn to some of its characters and it didn’t matter if they were Autobots or Decepticons because they all looked cool. Most of them were pretty damn cool. Why wouldn’t they be, right? It’s not everyday that we’d run into a red Ferrari 458 Italia that would transform into a bad guy busting machine or an AM General Humvee that’s actually an Autobot medic. Yeah, those things don’t happen everyday so that’s why there are some people who are hooked on this movie. But the character that has captured the hearts of many is the gentle but vicious Bumblebee.

Who wouldn’t recognize this yellow Autobot, right? Aside from his charismatic demeanor (and the fact that he’s one of Optimus Prime’s most trusted comrades), Bumblebee has always been easy to spot because of his color – yellow. Well if it isn’t obvious enough, the character sports a yellow paint scheme that is inspired by a certain genus of bees which makes his character all the more prominent in the movie. His alternative vehicle mode has been in the form of either a Pontiac Firebird or the most well-known of them all, a Chevrolet Camaro.

From its last instalment, the Age of Extinction, Bumblebee took in multiple forms including a 1967 Camaro and later on into a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro concept. Now, as another Transformer movie is set to hit the movie screens, people are excited to see Bumblebee in a new and improved form.

Recently, Director Michael Bays posted a photo on Twitter, the first peek of the latest Bumblebee Camaro for the “Transformers: The Last Knight”. It looks like Bumblebee will soon take on the form of a sixth-generation Camaro – a Chevrolet Camaro 1LE that was first unveiled at the 2016 Chicago Auto Show.

The car will still feature the same signature yellow paint that is distinctly Bumblebee. As what we’ve seen on Michael Bay’s post, the new Bumblebee will have a new body kit as well as a bold front spoiler. We’re just not sure about its rear spoiler though but it looks like it has got some hidden power down there. If looks could kill, then we’d expect that the all-new Bumblebee would kill it in the new instalment.

There’s only that photo that was posted for the upcoming Transformers sequel but we’re expecting that there will be more in the days to come. The Transformers: The Last Knight will hit theaters on June 23, 2017. There are also rumours that a “Bumblebee spin-off movie” will also kick off the following year (perhaps on the 8th of June 2018) to compete with the upcoming “Godzilla” sequel. Well, we will be here waiting to see how the movie would utilize the power that’s stored inside the new Bumblebee Camaro.

The latest installment of the 007 series -- Spectre -- will once again feature an Aston Martin model. James Bond will be driving the new DB10, which Aston and EON Productions unveiled at the 007 stage at Pinewood Studios. Especially developed and built-in house for the film, the new DB10 is part of Aston’s celebration of 50 years with the 007 franchise.

Marek Reichman, Aston’s chief creative officer, collaborated with director Sam Mendes “to create the ultimate car for the world’s most famous spy.” Spectre will be shown on the big screen starting Nov. 6, 2015. Aston will produce just 10 units of the DB10 – all for the film at its Gaydon headquarters in Gaydon.

The DB10’s lines provide a glimpse of the next models that will be produced by the premium carmaker. On the other hand, German news outlet Wirtschafts Woche reported that nine cars built for the Spectre -- including five Range Rover Sport SUVs – were stolen from Dusseldorf, Germany, before they will be transported to the Alps for filming. Wirtschafts reported that the incident prompted for production of new cars for the shoot.

General Motors is banking on the on the latest installment of the Transformers to help jump-start sales of six new Chevrolet models in China. "Transformers: Age of Extinction" – the fourth in the series --opened in theaters in China and the United States on June 27, 2014, and features GM vehicles like the Chevrolet Camaro sports car and Trax small SUV.

The movie – called TF4 by many of its fans -- provides GM a wide-ranging yet effective marketing tool when it rolls out six Chevrolets models in China this year. Tim Mahoney, the global chief marketing officer for the Chevrolet brand, remarked that TF4 will be a springboard for launching new products.

In 2013, Chevrolet posted a nine-percent surge in sales to 652,077 in a China market that grew 16 percent. GM's relationship with Transformers dates back in 2007, when the first of the series hit theaters around the world.

The 2007 Transformers featured a bright yellow Chevrolet Camaro that transforms into an Autobot named Bumblebee.

According to Mahoney, he himself has observed the effect of the movie in China -- more than 70 percent of Camaro sports cars are bought in the same color as the character. In contrast, only five percent of Camaros sold in the sold had the same color as Bumblebee.

Mahoney quipped that yellow is well associated with Chevrolet, thanks to the role that Bumblebee played in the Transformers series. GM is planning to use Chevrolet as it penetrates into smaller cities in China and its western region.

Bill Russo, president of Synergistics Ltd., remarked that Chevrolet’s slower growth in 2013 came "from not having the freshest product in the highest growth segments."

The Chevrolet Camaro is reprising its role as the famous Autobot Bumblebee in the latest iteration of the Transformers: Age of Extinction, otherwise known as TF4 among fans. The Camaro makes its first appearance in the movie – hitting the silver screen on June 27 -- as a highly modified 1967 Camaro SS.

The Camaro will later appear as a yellow-and-black-striped 2014 Camaro Concept, which was designed especially for the movie at General Motors’ North Hollywood Design Center. Making a special guesting in the widely anticipated film is Ed Welburn, GM’s vice president of global design.

He acts as the director of the Central Intelligence Agency. Welburn said in a statement that being a part of the Transformers franchise is “an incredible way” to showcase the design work that GM is capable.

TF4 marks Bumblebee fourth appearance in as many Transformers film, which is why director Michael Bay asked Welburn and the GM design team to provide Bumblebee more muscle this time.

GM spokesman David Barnas wrote in an e-mail to Automotive News that the Bumblebee in the TF4 movie will not be available to the public since it is a special model designed, developed and built specifically for the film.

The Camaro’s appearance in the saga has been rewarding for GM, as the car has been popular among a new generation of Camaro fans. Rusty Connell, sales manager at Dale Earnhardt Jr. Chevrolet in Tallahassee, Fla., remarked that the Camaro is not hard to sell.

The Camaro has become popular with customers in their late 20s and early 30s, Connell remarked. As for the 2014 Camaro, GM is marketing the car to a new generation of consumers, as shown in a new spot in which a Boy watching scenes of Bumblebee in TF4 on his tablet encounters the Autobot-styled Camaro in his driveway. He then leans towards the Camaro to whisper, “Bumblebee, is that you?”

Chevrolet has strike an agreement with Disney's Marvel Studios giving its Corvette, Tahoe, Silverado and Impala models virtual co-starring roles in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" that opened nationwide this weekend. Its directors, Joe and Anthony Russo, even directed a new commercial for the Chevrolet Traverse showing children reenacting parts of the trailer.

The Chevrolet-Captain America product placement deal is considered as one of the biggest for GM since its 2007 agreement in with the first installment of the "Transformers" franchise. GM benefitted a lot from the heavy exposure of its vehicles in the first "Transformers" film, as they literally are the stars of the Michael Bay move.

In the first “Transformers,” GM’s vehicles played the role of transforming heroic robots. For instance, the Chevrolet Camaro played as Bumblebee; the Solstice as Jazz; a Hummer H2 as Ratchet; a GMC Topkick truck as Ironhide. Even after GM was bailed out by the federal government, it vehicles continued to star in subsequent films.

As for “Captain America,” the involvement of GM vehicle may not be as celebrated as the in “Transformers,” but they still flood the Marvel Studios film. One of the highlights was the when the Black Widow, played by Scarlet Johansson, picks up Steve Rogers (aka Captain America) in an all-black Stingray near the US Capitol.

GM's general director of branded entertainment, Steve Tihanyi, personally suggested that Johansson drive the seventh-generation Corvette, to which film-makers agreed, leading to a between Marvel and GM.

Summit Entertainment’s film adaptation of the award-winning, best-selling novel “Ender’s Game” will be the movie that will show the latest Audi concept, the fleet shuttle Quattro. The Audi Design Team developed an entirely virtual car for the new movie that will have its premiere in German cinemas on October 24.

Featuring a visionary design, the Audi fleet shuttle Quattro blends easily into the world of the science fiction feature film and combines futuristic design with groundbreaking technology. “The Audi in the movie represents progress and it appears in key scenes that have a lasting impact on the life of the protagonist,” explained Florian Zitzlsperger, responsible for Brand Partnerships at AUDI AG.

“As a result, our Audi becomes part of this fictional world.” “Designing the Audi fleet shuttle quattro was similar to customizing a tailor-made suit. We adapted it to the requirements of the world in ‘Ender’s Game’ and at the same time had to take care to preserve our brand values,” said Frank Rimili, chief designer for the film project. “We were ultimately able to perfectly project our design philosophy into the fictional world of the movie.” Linda McDonough, a producer of “Ender’s Game,” added, “The Audi brand is already very forward thinking which made their inclusion in our film an organic fit.” [source: Audi]

Chevrolet is collaborating with DreamWorks Animation SKG, Inc. over the latter’s newest feature film – Turbo, which will premier in the United States on July 17, 2013. The collaboration between Chevrolet and DreamWorks includes engaging fans in the US and select international markets and enhancing the film’s racing environment.

The companies’ wide-ranging campaign includes television, print, and online advertising. The campaign will also entail social media push and dealership activations in key markets. As part of the partnership, Chevrolet has built a special real-life replica of a custom Camaro featured in the film.

Chevrolet design consulted with DreamWorks on the animated versions of the Camaro, and of the Chevrolet-powered Indy cars that appeared in Turbo. The film – which features a slow snail named Turbo who dreams of being fast -- marks the first time DreamWorks has collaborated with brands in this manner.

Chevrolet plays an integral role in two of the film’s vital moments. The first is when Turbo receives his speed after an encounter with a Chevrolet Camaro. The second is during the scenes set at the Indianapolis 500, where Chevrolet “bowtie” logo is featured prominently. The scene was recreated during the Indy race last weekend, during which the Chevrolet logo was also featured prominently. Tim Mahoney, chief marketing officer at Chevrolet, remarked that Turbo is one of the most anticipated films this summer, and the carmaker “couldn’t be more excited” about the collaboration, which lines ups with its renewed presence in INDYCAR.

Mahoney added that millions of future drivers will be inspired by Turbo to realize their dreams “both big and small.” Anne Globe, Chief Marketing Officer at DreamWorks Animation, noted that there is no better car than a Chevrolet to give Turbo his first taste of “high-speed driving on the open road.” She noted that DreamWorks’ relationship with Chevrolet both onscreen and at the Indy 500 is “a natural fit that adds a layer of authenticity to this wild ride of a story.” [source: Chevrolet]

Chrysler Group is hoping that the latest installment of the Fast & Furious film would drive further demand for its Dodge Dart vehicle. Although the Dart doesn’t play any role in Fast & Furious 6, Dodge is hoping that a Fast & Furious-like advertisement and other marketing ties with the action-thriller will lead to people becoming more aware of the compact car.

Since its launch in June 2012, the Dart was not as saleable as it was expected to be, although Dodge was able made a good comeback in April 2013 by posting 8,099 units in sales. The slow start of the Dodge was partly attributed to the fact that early production vehicles were only available in manual transmissions.

According to Dave Sullivan, an analyst at AutoPacific Inc., Dodge was losing around 95 percent of potential Dart sales since it couldn't offer an automatic gearbox for the compact car. The Dodge Dart, which is Chrysler's first compact car since its dropped Neon in 2005, has received generally positive reviews, although some reviewers hit its performance.

The Dart is competing in one of the hottest segments in the auto industry, and it was overwhelmed by major players like the Toyota Corolla/Matrix, Honda Civic, VW Jetta, Hyundai Elantra, Ford Focus and Chevrolet Cruze. Dodge only sold 31,064 Darts in the United States from launch to April 2013, ranking the model ninth out of 19 compact cars.

The segment is ruled by Toyota Corolla and Matrix, with sales of 104,517. According to Don Lee, president of Lee Auto Malls, Dart sales have been modest at his two Maine dealerships. He said that when buyers look for a car in the Dart's price range, they find the mid-sized Dodge Avenger more attractive due to rebates that lower the final purchase price.

The anticipation for the comeback of Alfa Romeo in the U.S. builds up more with the delays. Apparently, Alfa Romeo has spent a lot of its time on being featured in several Hollywood movies. In fact, the Giulietta will be seen in the “Fast & Furious 6” movie at one of its signature stunts. The movie opens on May 24 in the U.S. In the “Fast Five” movie, two Dodge Chargers dragged a vault through the streets.

But the stunt for the sixth movie is even more ridiculous. The Giulietta will be disembarking from a cargo plane during takeoff. Notably, these Giuliettas won’t have much alike with the hot hatch models on sale in Europe since they will receive many revisions on their exterior and interior for the movie. A variety of engines will be available for the Euro-spec Giulietta.

These include a 1.4-liter turbocharged Multiair engine and 2.0-liter turbodiesel mated to a six-speed manual transmission. Alfa fans are excited for the launch of the 4C in the U.S. that marks the brand’s comeback. However, it’s not yet known when the Giulietta will make it to the U.S.
