2018 BMW M550d xDrive (G30/G31) debuts with four turbochargers

After launching the latest version of the BMW M550i xDrive, the German carmaker is now introducing its diesel counterpart -- the new M550d xDrive (G30/G31). Available either as a sedan or as touring model, the new M550d xDrive offers less output than the M550i xDrive, but has significantly more torque than the gasoline model.

Operating behind the scenes is a 3.0-liter six-cylinder diesel engine that could be considered as the world’s most powerful of its kind in the automotive area. This six-cylinder diesel mill employs multi-stage turbocharging with four turbochargers, allowing it to provide up to 400 hp (294 kW) of output at 4,400 rpm and up to 560 lb.-ft. (760 Nm) of torque available from 2,000 rpm.

Interestingly around 332 lb.-ft. (450 Nm) of torque is readily available from just 1,000 rpm. In comparison, the M550i xDrive is powered an M Performance Turbo 8-cylinder TwinPower 4.4-liter engine with a pair of twin-scroll turbochargers and a High Precision Injection system. This gasoline engine could deliver 456 hp of max output at 5,550 rpm and 480 lb.-ft. of torque available at 1,800 rpm. When compared to the previous M550d xDrive, the latest iteration is more powerful by 19 hp (14 kW) and 15 lb.-ft. (20 Nm).

This one takes the cake for the ultimate customer service. A centenarian treats himself for hitting the 100 year mark by purchasing a £100k Lexus. Upon hearing of the purchase, Lexus decided to make the celebration a bit more special, by customizing the luxury car the centenarian will never forget.

Who is the gentleman in question? He is Barry High OBE who hails from Blockley and is duly recognized as a loyal customer to the Japanese automaker.

Barry High joined the Royal Engineers in the Army when he left school, and by the time the World War 2 concluded, he has risen up to the rank of Major. Afterwards his main trade was construction. He reportedly bought as many as 25 automobiles from Lexus Cheltenham for the last 16 years. Porsche dealers appeal to the company to produce a 5 seat Panamera Sedan

Wagon buyers who prefer their vehicle to be luxurious, you will have an entirely brand new selection at the latter part of this year. Porsche will start rolling out 4 fresh models of the Panamera Sport Turismo at the end of 2017 in the US. Moreover, the local dealers are appealing for a 5 seat sedan, but it seems their demands will be met with a solution from the German automaker.

SUVs and crossovers are the latest buzz at these times, leading the sales in the global market. However it is shocking to see that the wagons are not giving up without a fight nowadays. Now, the luxurious German automaker has made one that will be the newest member of their claim, but Porsche doesn't literally use the wagon description of its long roofed Panamera.

The 2nd gen Porsche Panamera sedan (but it is more of a hatchback than a sedan) is a standard 4 seater vehicle that is tempting to own, but if you want to fit 3 more companions in the back then you can opt for a Panamera Sport Turismo.

2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Facelift: here are the changes

Earlier this week, the revamped 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class was revealed ahead of the 2017 Shanghai Auto Show. As expected, Mercedes Benz’s flagship model is now offered in several variants including the AMG specced sedan. Unique to this update is the suite of driver assistance technologies and active safety features under its latest Intelligent Drive system.

According to Mercedes-Benz, the new enhancements on the S-Class are the closest it could get to actual autonomous driving. The most notable ones include the new Active Speed Limit Assist, Active Lane Change Assist, Active emergency Stop Assist, Active Steering Assist and Active Distance Assist Distronic feature. It also comes equipped with the new Route Based Speed Adaptation technology that adjusts the vehicle’s speed according to the information seen on the map such as exit ramps, toll booths, roundabouts, junctions and curves.

Most mid-cycle updates are not technically considered as facelifts. Instead, the automaker performs a few tweaks here and there to bring a fresh new offer for their customers. This time however, the luxury sedan is almost not the same as its previous model.

Not so long ago, the 2018 Genesis G80 Sport made its debut at the 2016 LA Auto Show. But at that time, it did not have a price yet. And now that there is a price tag on it released along with the rest of the 2018 model lineup, it turns out the Sport model isn’t a cheap one.

And it doesn’t end there. If you compare last year’s prices to the rates of the 2018 models - particularly the G80 3.8 and the G80 5.0 Ultimate, you will notice a slight price hike. And that does not even include the extra $25 increase in destination fee.

Let us get in detail about the changes in price. For the G80 3.8 rear-wheel drive, the 2017 model had a price of $41,400, while the 2018 model is at $41,750, there is a noticeable difference of $350 for this model. Similarly, the all-wheel drive version also gets a $350 increase, with the 2017 model at $43,900, and the new 2018 model at $44,250. But what is really surprising is the price increase of the G80 5.0 Ultimate rear-wheel drive. The 2017 model was once priced at $54,500, and now that the 2018 model is out, it comes with a price tag of $57,000 - that is a $2,450 increase from the older model. Meanwhile, the all-wheel drive variant of the 2018 G80 5.0 Ultimate is at $59,500.

The German automobile manufacturer powerhouse Mercedes-Benz is on the brink of fully launching the mid-cycle upgrade of its flagship vehicle around April. Included in the press release from Mercedes-Benz regarding the plan for the S-Class lineup to be a level 2 autonomous vehicle are several images of parts of its interior. These have been hidden in plain sight all along.

In the previous months, there were leaked images of the S-Class Facelift that were published online, and the alterations are noticeable. A cleaner front bumper was revealed with a chrome bar fitted across the bumper. Also, the grill and the multibeam lead headlamps were shown to the public.

But only recently has the interior been clearly seen, and it is the perfect treat to us who are all too keen to see any aspect of its interior. Sadly, it doesn’t show all the anticipated changes. The overall look and outline of the dash, its location, the proportion of the display and the controls of the center console appear to be the same.

The long wait is over for those who have been waiting for the new Audi RS 3 Sedan to come to the United States. This is because German premium carmaker Audi is officially bringing its new Audi RS 3 to North American soil, as a 2018 model year. To announce and mark its American debut, the new Audi RS 3 will be on display for the public to view at the 2017 New York International Auto Show.

Considered as the most dynamic A3 model so far, the Audi RS 3 is the first compact sedan to bear the RS name. Its dynamism applies both to its appearance and performance, while it retains the elegance and luxury that the Audi marque has been known for. As the ultimate sporty iteration of the A3 sedan, it is definitely athletic in character. This is defined by the three-dimensional honeycomb Singleframe grille with four rings logo and a blade covering the whole width of the front and then extending to the side air inlets. This blade forms thin funnels that guide the airflow to the wheel arches, which have wider flares to accommodate a front track that is 0.8 inches wider. The front end of the new RS 3 is marked by LED headlights with daytime running lights, although matrix LED units could be availed.

The new Audi RS 3 is powered by new five-cylinder 2.5 TFSI engine that delivers 400 hp (294 kW) of max output -- or around 33 hp more than its predecessor – as well as 354 lb.-ft. (480 Nm) of peak torque available between 1,700 and 5,850 rpm. This power is sent to the quattro permanent all-wheel drive through the S tronic seven-speed dual clutch transmission. In this set-up, the new Audi RS 3 could sprint from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.1 seconds and achieve an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph), which could be increased upon request to 280 km/h (174 mph).

The mid-cycle facelift for the Mercedes-Benz's S-Class have been disclosed to the public eye via these leaked shots. The images that recently surfaced and others like it were published online by SaudiShift and revealed what appear to be alterations made on the updated S-Class.

Upfront where the changes are more noticeable, the more improved S-Class has a cleaner front bumper design with a chrome bar found across the width of the lower air intake area. Its grill has also been changed with a recent elliptical chrome slats, with the internals of the Multibeam Lead headlamps revised as well. Meanwhile, the rear has received some minor alterations.

There is a small revision made to the rear bumper and a new chrome bar connecting with the 2 exhaust tips. Internally, the state of the art sedan is fitted with larger screens for both infotainment and instrumentation purposes. The screens found on the updated sedan are devised to look like one continuous unit. Also it is seen that some minor tweaks were added to the lower center console as well.

On July 11, Audi is set to reveal its flagship luxury sedan, the all new A8. And at this moment, none of us are sure how this model will look. But we get a good idea of what it will be thanks to Jan Peisert who renders the design of the new Audi A8 (D5) based on the leaked illustration and spy shots of the latest prototype as it goes through its testing stage. As seen on the rendering, the fourth generation Audi A8 has design elements from recently launched concepts and designs by the company. To be specific, it has similarities with the latest TT coupe, the new SQ5 crossover, and the Prologue Avant concept - like bits and pieces of these cars combined.

To give you more details, it’s like a flashback of 2014’s Prologue Concept, a large sports coupe, that had a very angular and sharp face. Though we feel like the A8 was inspired by this concept, it will be a more conservative, toned down version of the concept’s eye catching exterior design - since this might sell better in the market. As for the interior, we have no word on that yet.

Apart from having a semi-autonomous driving mode that is derived from Audi’s Piloted Driving technology, sources say that this car will have more high tech features. One of them would be the self-parking feature, while another is the self-driving function that lets the car drive itself from 0 to 37 miles per hour. It will also come with special control units that will prepare the car for future developments of the autonomous driving software.

It’s quite safe to say that this generation marks the rise of the electric cars. For the past few years, automakers have been very busy trying to find the perfect combination to be able to produce the best electric car the world has ever seen. In recent reports, Tesla has been a rising star in the field of electrifying vehicles. So many have tried to overthrow the American automaker from its throne, with a recent challenge from a new contender. But will it be able to outshine the Tesla Model S? Let’s try to find out.

Bremblens-based company Classic Factory is currently doing its best to create an electric vehicle that will surpass the brilliance that is the Tesla Model S P100D.

Months ago, mysterious photos of the Elextra have been circulating around the internet showing glimpses of its side profile. Recently, semi-revealing official teasers of the Elextra have been released, showing off its front and rear fascia. What’s quite fascinating is that its front design takes on a triangular motif which is quite evident on the shape of its headlight clusters and the indentation on its hood.

Since 1993, Lexus has produced 4 generations of the Lexus GS, with the GS F amongst its newest member of the family. Unfortunately, rumors are also heating up that the luxurious sedan will no longer see the light of day within the next few years.

LexusEnthusiast.com found out about the sad news by sifting through the pages of MAG-X, a Japanese magazine which was published in January. According to a source, the lengthy article, which had to be translated in English stated the GS is slated to bow out of the league after its current generation.

There are also some insinuations that the LS will be its immediate replacement --considering it also comes with the new V6 engine. With the increasing demand for the LS, it says Toyota Motors Corporation arrived at a decision to remove the GS from their lineup. In all, having the same V6 engine for both the GS and the LS must have caused a product overlap in their existing line.

Tesla confirms that they will be discontinuing the fairly new Model S 60 and 60D sedans as soon as next month. Why, you ask? The company wants to make enough room for the upcoming Model 3. But do not worry, orders of the entry level Model S (at $68,000) will be received until April 16. You should hurry up then if you still want to get any of those models before they’re scrapped.

The 60 line is currently Tesla’s most affordable electric car. It’s much more affordable than the Model S P90 D which starts at $90,700. The base model offers a 210-mile range and a battery pack capable of storing 75kWh. However, it is software limited to 60kWh, unless the buyer decides to pay an extra $6,500 to unlock its full power - increasing the driving range to 249-259 miles. Also, it will cost another $3,000 to enable the AutoPilot semi-autonomous features. Basically, you have to pay more, to get more. But not always, as the Model S 60 buyers can have access Tesla’s Supercharger network free of charge.

For the upcoming Model 3, the company plans to come out with seven options. However, if there would not be a new powertrain introduced soon enough, then they might reduce options to just five. This effort was done by the company to ensure that they have an affordable unit on hand, especially with the interest people are showing in the Model 3.

During the Audi Summit in Barcelona, Spain this coming July, the all new Audi A8 (D5) luxury saloon will make a publicity stunt. And according to reports, it will make its second appearance at the Frankfurt Motor Show, in autumn 2017.

Looking more stylish than ever, the 4th generation Audi A8 will have a sharper, more chiseled look, inspired by the Audi Prologue Concept series, which everybody loved because of its elegance. If we are lucky enough, the A8 may even share qualities of the Prologue like the concave windscreen and a simple, minimalist interior, with its technology hidden behind screens. The A8 will be having a slightly larger footprint as well.

The A8 will be having plenty of automatic features like the Traffic Jam Assist (an updated version) - which basically lets the car just glide along with the speed of the other cars, at a maximum speed of 60 kilometers per hour during heavy traffic, without any input from the driver. Luckily for the driver, he or she will not have to dread about having to step on the brake pads every couple of seconds.

BMW has confirmed that for now, it will not be releasing an M5 Touring. However, for those who want something in a similar vein, then Alpina may have the answer.

Based in Germany, Alpina is an automaker that manufactures cars based mainly on BMW models. Its latest offering is the elegant B5 Bi-Turbo which is based on the latest 5-Series (G30) range of BMW. Fans of the company are likely to be excited as everything they expect from Alpina is there. The alloy 20-inch multi-spoke wheels? Check. Brake calipers in blue? Check. It even has an aerodynamic kit that gives it that timeless design.

Powering this model is the biturbo 4.4-liter V8 engine that is capable of delivering 608 hp (447 kW) with peak torque of 590 lb.-ft. (800 Nm). This output is then channeled to the all-wheel drive system using the automatic eight-speed ZF transmission. With this amount, the sedan version is able to get a maximum speed of 205 mph (330 km/h) with acceleration from 0 to 62 mph (0 to 100 km/h) possible in 3.5 seconds. Since the wagon version is a bit heavier, maximum speed is at 202 mph (325 km/h) with acceleration from standstill to 62 mph (100 km/h) achieved in 3.6 seconds.

There is no denying that the new BMW M760Li xDrive really sits at the acme of the German premium carmaker’s 7-Series family. Along with its powerful and confident performance -- as powered by a new M Performance TwinPower Turbo V12 petrol engine -- the new BMW M760Li xDrive also boasts of being able to deliver segment-leading driving dynamics as well as ride comfort.

As an M Performance 7-Series, the BMW M760Li xDrive is about dynamics, especially concerning the amount of power emanating from its V12 engine. But aside from the fact the BMW M760Li xDrive is a true performer sitting on top of the 7-Series range, it also offers selections from BMW Individual. BMW Individual allows owners and would-be-owners to choose from an array of exterior and interior elements that aren’t usually offered. This means that customers could further evolve their BMW M760Li xDrive from something that is already special into a unit that is even more exclusive.

For instance, this particular model is wrapped in Frozen Dark Brown metallic exterior finish from BMW Individual, as accentuated by 20-inch BMW Individual Light alloy V-Spoke wheels with performance run-flat tires. Of course, there are more beautiful exterior finishes from BMW Individual the client could choose from. These include Moonstone Metallic finish, Almandine Brown Metallic color, Azurite Black Metallic and Ruby Black Metallic exterior finishes.

Opel revealed it has sweetened the pot for 2017 Insignia Grand Sport customers with the Opel Exclusive program. Through this program, the brand hopes to introduce a wide selection of colors that will clearly highlight the already elegant style.

However, it is not just about having colors to choose from as Opel wants to ensure that the second-generation Insignia customers will be able to stand apart from the rest. As such, Opel is offering an “unlimited range” of colors that are all based on the preference and style of the customer. This option though is not free and will come with additional cost.

Three finishes will be made available with the first one being the metallic finish which allows more incident light to be shown. The second is tri-coat finish which gives the vehicle a smoother look. Finally there is the pearl finish which makes use of a fine layer of crystals that are then embedded to the finish to give it a more natural shine.

Sooner or later this year, BMW intends to launch a performance version of its recently launched BMW 5 Series (G30) through the new BMW M5. But before we could see that happen, German carmaker Alpina will also be launching its own iteration and interpretation of the BMW 5 Series – the next generation of the Alpina B5.

Just recently, Alpina launched a teaser campaign for its new-gen B5. Two video clips were intended and the German company has just shown the first one. Well, the short video clip – lasting for just 30 seconds – shows a heavily camouflaged Alpina B5 speedily cruising through a road full of snow as surrounded by pine trees. It might be intending the dynamic capability of the new Alpina B5 to take on any challenges on any weather, even if the road is as slippery as an ice skating rink. The video clip ends by announcing that a new BMW Alpina is coming.

Since the 2018 Alpina B5 is heavily camouflaged – and no thanks to the snowy white background – it was pretty hard to see the visual changes implemented by the exclusive carmaker to transform a new BMW 5 Series into a new Alpina B5. Yes, while the new Alpina B5 should be very well derived from the new BMW 5 Series, it doesn’t mean they would look the same. The exterior appearance of the new generation of the BMW 5 Series (G30) should give us a good idea on how the new Alpina B5 would look like when it finally makes its debut on the market.
