Hyundai is introducing a new 2018 Accent that is not only wider and longer, but is now also sporting a new look that is more serious than the previous model. Cadillac’s CT6 full-size prestige-luxury sedan is still somewhat new. It has been offered to the global auto market for two model years – 2016 and 2017. But for those who think that the first generation of the CT6 (short for Cadillac Touring 6) might be getting a little older, the US premium carmaker is readying a plethora of updates and upgrades for its range-topping sedan.
According to a recently published order guide, Cadillac is giving the CT6 sedan quite a number of tweaks and updates that should allow it to become more competitive while still attracting customers and delivering a better user experience.
For instance, Cadillac has deleted four exterior colors from the 2018 CT6 color palette -- Dark Emerald Metallic; Moonstone Metallic; Red Passion Tint coat; and Phantom Gray Metallic. While the premium carmaker deleted these four exterior colors, it also added three new tones as it hopes to refresh how the new 2016 looks like. These new exterior colors -- Red Horizon Tintcoat; Satin Steel Metallic; and Stone Gray Metallic – are available for a fee. General Motors is getting ready to unveil its new Buick Regal sedan at the Shanghai Auto Show 2017 in April. But before GM had the chance to do so, leaked images of the new sedan have surfaced.
Actually, we already have a good idea of how would the China-bound 2018 Buick Regal would look like as early as December 2016. At the time, General Motors introduced the Opel Insignia Grand Sport, which will have its official debut this March at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. This new large family car marks the second generation of the Insignia after nearly a decade. The Insignia Grand Sport features a new design made distinct by elegant lines as well as best-in-class aerodynamics. It is also underpinned by a new platform and loaded with new systems and technologies. Of course, it was openly known that the second-gen Insignia would be the basis for the new Holden Commodore and the new Buick Regal, and would be homologated for the requirements in the countries where they would be marketed. When the Electric GT World Series was announced in March 2016, organizer Electric GT Holding Inc. also disclosed that it has chosen the Tesla Motors S P85+ as a base model for the 10 teams bound to enter the event in its 2017 inaugural season.
Agustin Paya, Technical Director for Electric GT Holdings, remarked back then that the Tesla model S was chosen because of its impressive circuit racing potential with its power, acceleration, weight distribution and low center of gravity as well as superb cornering speed. Motorists wanting to have the 2017 Citroen C-Elysee in their respective garages may now be able to place an order for the compact sedan in France. This face-lifted iteration of the Citroen C-Elysee could be availed at a starting price of €13,750 ($14,459).
According to the French carmaker, interested customers could only avail of one trim level for the 2017 Citroen C-Elysee, dubbed as Live. The base version of the 2017 Citroen C-Elysee is laden with an array of standard equipment that includes the Citroen Connect Radio system. Some car enthusiasts may simply opt for BMW’s standard list of rim options while others go for something bolder. Regardless of how much we want it, Italian company Pagani Automibili is highly unlikely to develop and offer a four-door sedan. And there is a reason for that – Pagani is an auto company that specializes in creating and building carbon fiber-laden supercars. Meet the fastest-accelerating four-door production car in the planet. No, it is not a Lamborghini, a Ferrari or a Porsche. It is an updated Tesla Model S. This was proven during a recent drag race against a Cadillac CTS-V.
Actually, the Model S is already certified as the quickest four-door production car when it managed to complete the quarter-mile run in just 10.76 seconds in September 2016. This particular Model S is the top-of-the-range P100D version that employs a 100-kWh battery pack and the game-changing Ludicrous mode. In theory, the Model S P100D with Ludicrous could go as quickly as 2.5 seconds in the zero to 60 mph sprint. In the September quarter-mile run, an industrial generator was used by a team of Tesla enthusiasts in order to achieve the absolute best time possible -- by doing drag runs at 100-percent state of charge.
But recently, Tesla Motors launched a software update for the P100D version – the Ludicrous Plus. This update furthers unlocks the capabilities of the Tesla Model S P100D. When the Ludicrous Plus mode is activated – done by pressing the “Ludicrous” button on the settings screen for five seconds – the temperature of the 100-kWh battery pack is raised to 122 degrees Fahrenheit. Just days before BMW commences sales of the next generation of the BMW 5 Series (G30 generation), the German premium carmaker is putting more efforts to market its latest offering. In particular, BMW uploaded a short video clip in social media Web site YouTube detailing some of the differences between the new seventh generation of the BMW 5 Series and the current sixth generation (F10).
The clip – lasting around three minutes – gives us in--depth details of how the seventh-generation BMW isn’t just a face-lifted version of the sixth generation. After all, the most desirable changes are on the core of the new 5 Series. However, BMW is good enough to point out the distinction between the two generations of the 5 Series.
BMW started on discussing the exterior changes on the front. The carmaker is quick to point out that the new 5 Series still features BMW’s signature kidney grille, which is now wider and is visually linked to the housings of the twin circular headlights. These lamp units come in LED Adaptive units as standard, although optional Adaptive Full LED Headlights with light graphic altering capability are also available. When this option is specified, the LED tubes of the daytime running lights become hexagonal in form. The grille could now be opened or closed for better aerodynamics. The F80 generation of the BMW M3 will be getting its second Life Cycle Impulse (LCI) for the 2018 model year. To explain it further, Life Cycle Impulse (LCI) is BMW’s term for a mid-cycle refresh or simply a facelift. This means that we would be seeing the BMW M3 with some updates on its look when it is released for the 2018 model year.
It is fairly easy to tell which part of the 2018 BMW M3 has been updated. After all, it is the lone most obvious visual tweak implemented on the face-lifted 2018 BMW M3 LCI II. At a glance, the headlights of the 2018 BMW M3 seem familiar – this is because these lamp units are the ones found on the visually updated 2017 BMW M4 LCI. This means that the new BMW M3 now features newly designed adaptive full-LED headlights, which could cast their beam in the direction of the curve to ensure better visibility at night. The new headlight graphics and design makes use of extra LED bars that help highlight the connection between the BMW M3’s kidney grille and its light units. Apart from newly designed headlights, there are no other major visual tweaks implemented. Everything remains the same aside from the new headlights.
There are some visual tweaks implemented inside the 2018 BMW M3 LCI II. Now, the illuminated M3 logos on the seats of the driver and the front passenger now feature a fresher design. The previous year has introduced a lot of new overhauls in the compact car segment not just for Mercedes but also for other major players in the car industry. In addition to the new overhauls, Mercedes-Benz’s “Aesthetics A” unveiled its new design sculpture for the upcoming A-Class sedan models. The teasers show how the new design philosophy incorporates fewer lines and creases as if everything else have gone back to the basic element of style.
Judging from the side profile, the concept saloon has a smoother and more distinct singular shape unlike anything we’ve seen before. Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer for Mercedes Benz, says that with its sensual surface design, the upcoming generation of the compact class has the potential to herald a “new design era.” This is probably what he meant with the new “Sensual Purity” design language that has almost completely gotten rid of the “sharp creases” and instead replaced it with more “sensual lines” for a flawless finish. We’ve also noticed it to be taking some of the newly updated AMG GT design cues particularly on the vertical slats along the front grille.
Rumors imply that there will also be an all-new four door model in the lineup destined for its North American consumers. Tesla launched its keyless app to allow owners to lock, unlock or power up their Tesla Model S even when they don’t use the factory key fob, which of course is still a vital part of driving. As long as a user has a smartphone – powered by Android (Google) or iOS (Apple) – with installed apps from Tesla as well as a cellular signal (for Internet connectivity), he or she could control and monitor his or her Tesla Model S from a far. The keyless app works by having the smartphone app send a request to Tesla’s servers, which in turn process it and transmit a command to the Model S.
Tesla’s keyless app has advantages and disadvantages over a typical key fob. In terms of range, Tesla’s keyless app could reach the electric car as long as there in cellular signal or Internet connection. This means that even if a user is a hundred meters away, he or she could use the keyless app to unlock the Model S. Meanwhile, a key fob employs short-range radio signals, which are good for around 20 meters. These signals are sent directly from the key fob to a receiver unit in the car. 2017 is undeniably a very busy year for BMW. After introducing the new 4-Series, the German automaker has just released several new updates. In relation to this, BMW is also introducing the new 520d (G30) EfficientDynamics Edition, the company’s most eco-friendly 2.0 litre diesel engine.
BMW’s new 520d Efficient Dynamics has a combined fuel consumption of 73.4 miles per gallon and as low as 102 g/km C02 emissions. The engine consists of a turbocharger placed on antifriction bearings along with the new improved common rail injection, map controller oil pump and high pressure gas recirculation system. Mated to a standard 8-speed automatic transmission, the 520d EfficientDynamics can go from 0 to 62 miles per hour in only 7.5 seconds.
