Now available: RevoZport tuning kit for Tesla Model X

Back in 2016, RevoZport for the first time modified the Model S for Hong Kong’s e-Touring Challenge. This was named the RevoZport R- Zentric P90D Model S safety car. The heavily modified Model S would later serve as the safety vehicle for the FIA Formula E Hong Kong ePrix held last October 9 at the Harbourfront in Hong Kong. Certainly, RevoZport was one of the first auto tuners to dress up a Tesla this far.

Now with the new Tesla Model X, the aftermarket tuning company also has some new accessories built for the crossover. The Hong Kong based auto tuner offers the Model X with its new R-Zentric tuning package. The aero kit comes complete with the brand’s signature diffuser, rear spoiler, side sills and front splitter. It also has some enhancements for the front bumper as well as a new set of Klassen ID 22-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels.

Overall, the RevoZport Model X has a sportier character compared with the previously modified Tesla Model X as done by Unplugged Performance and Villner auto tuners.

Surprisingly, RevoZport has also been working on an off-road tuning kit for Tesla’s electric crossover. The tuning house is planning to come up with a roof mounted lightbar, bulbar and flared fenders for the Model X just to name a few. If that’s the case, it would be more like the extreme Model X version of RevoZport R-Zentric.

If we try to look back, the R-Zentric complete package for the previously modified Model S comes with a carbon fibre trunk spoiler, rear diffuser, fender flares , side skirts and front splitter. This is perfect for last year’s all electric motor racing series because it improves the car’s aerodynamic efficiency.

Just like with the new Model X, RevoZport designed the Model S aerokits with industrial grade CAD software. The use of carbon composite materials for the aerokit will help shed off more weight, which is essential to provide higher down force for better performance. If there is more, the extremely lightweight Klassen ID Forged alloy wheels on the Model S comes fitted with special tires that helped increase its fenders and track width by at least 40 millimeters.

As a result, the RevoZport tuning package provides the Model S with better grip at the corner. Considering this entire package is also in RevoZport’s latest product line, we can therefore expect the R-Zentric-tuned Model X to offer better handling and performance.

Peisert Design unveils own version of Bugatti SUV – dubbed the Megalon

For the past few years, the automotive world has been dominated by SUVs. Low-end brands to ultra-luxury carmakers have included an SUV in their lineup. Nonetheless, there are some exotic carmakers that have yet to get caught in this obsession – one of which is Automobiles Ettore Bugatti.

What if Bugatti decides to offer an SUV? Of course, plenty of motorists – whether Bugatti owners or not – to see the French performance carmaker build and sell an exotic SUV. It has been building supercars since it was revived, but perhaps it wouldn’t be impossible to see Bugatti build a super-SUV in the far -- if not near -- future. It would not be surprising if some visual designers do get the idea of rendering an image of a Bugatti SUV.

Jan Peisert of Peisert Design was creative enough to draw up an SUV that features the design language of the Bugatti brand – resulting to an SUV known as the Bugatti Megalon. Of course, this moniker was given by Peisert.

Overall, the Bugatti Megalon looks like a beefed-up Bugatti Chiron that has been raised several centimeters sans its sloping rear hood. Honestly, it really looked like a Bugatti Chiron superimposed on another SUV. Peisert Design grabbed an image of a Bentley Bentayga cruising on a desert, and began gluing various design elements from Bugatti.

Some of these design elements include the Bugatti horseshoe grille as flanked with the eight-eyed front end – a styling we could see on the Bugatti Chiron. Moreover, the Megalon features the so-called "Bugatti line," which is basically the C-bar on the side that is usually employed as a design element in the cabin. After some retouches and refinements, Peisert was able to create the Bugatti Megalon.

According to Peisert, the Bugatti Megalon features gullwing doors in the back. Likewise, it is powered by a W16 engine that is mounted in the back.

The Bugatti Megalon SUV looks interesting. However, the question would be if Bugatti be able get out of its super sports cars box and join Aston Martin, Maserati, and Lamborghini in the melee to build and offer exotic SUVs.

We couldn’t answer that for now. However, history tells us that Bugatti – starting from the original company – wasn’t only about cars. Aside from building cars and racers, Bugatti – led by founder Ettore Bugatti – also got itself concerned with airplanes and trains. These are completely different realms from cars, but Bugatti did become involved with wings and rails. Given this history, it wouldn’t be surprising if Bugatti suddenly reveals that an SUV is on the way. Moreover, building SUVs would be a good business case for Bugatti, given that these utilities are predicted to be in high demand several years from now.

2018 VW Atlas R-Line introduced

Months from now, Volkswagen will commence sales of its new Atlas SUV (2018 model year) in the United States. But as early as now, the German carmaker is making sure that it would be able to attract more customers for the new Atlas by disclosing that a performance-inspired R-Line package is up for grabs for its latest SUV.

This new trim will be available to the SE and SEL models of the 2018 VW Atlas, effectively enhancing their appearance both inside and out. The overall effect would be an Atlas that looks more dynamic and sportier than a typical model. Exterior enhancements packed in the R-Line trim include the fitment of distinct bumpers -- with integrated air intakes at the front bumper and a glossy black diffuser on the rear bumper.

Further exterior details include new side skirts, 20-inch aluminum-alloy twin-spoke wheels and R-Line badging. Interior improvements, meanwhile, come with an R-Line steering wheel clip as well as stainless-steel sport pedal covers. As soon as the driver starts up the SUV, the Modular Infotainment Platform (MIB II) infotainment system lights up with R-Line logo.

The 2018 VW Atlas R-Line will be offered in two available powertrains: a turbocharged direct-injection 2.0-liter 4-cylinder TSI engine that offers 238 hp (177 kW) of max output and a 3.6-liter V6 engine capable of delivering up to 280 hp (208 kW) of output. Both are paired to an eight-speed transmission. The 4-cylinder powered Atlas with R-Line is only available in front-wheel drive while the V6-powered SUV with the same package could be availed in either front-wheel drive or the advanced 4Motion all-wheel drive system.

Basically, VW developed the Atlas to further penetrate the auto markets in the US and China (known as Teramont). While the carmaker is considering selling the new Atlas in some markets in Europe, it first needs to determine if it is the right SUV to offer in the region. VW will commence sales of the Atlas in the US in the spring of 2017, with the R-Line package to be made available later in the year.

Underpinned by VW’s Modular Transverse Matrix architecture, or MQB, the 2018 VW Atlas employs the brand’s current design language. It measures 198.3 inches in length, 77.9 inches in width and 69.6 inches in height – making it the largest SUV from the German carmaker to be built in the US.

The China-bound Teramont, meanwhile, will be offered with three powertrain options – two versions of 2.0-liter TFSI engine developing 186hp and 220hp of outputs, and a 2.5-liter V6 TFSI engine generating 299hp of output. The series production of the Atlas has already started at the carmaker’s Chattanooga facility in Tennessee. The German company has invested over $900 million to improve the site’s current facilities and expand the production space by at least 26 percent (or around 665,000 square feet).

DMC Gigante is a heavily tuned Bentley Bentayga with 700 hp and 1,055 Nm

Sometimes, being on top isn’t enough, especially for this Bentley Bentayga, which has been thoroughly tinkered by German tuning firm DMC. In terms of the fusion of power and luxury in the SUV world, the highly premium Bentley Bentayga could be considered as the authority.

Aside from its luxurious and technology laden bespoke interior and its hegemonic exterior, the Bentley Bentayga deserves to be called the most powerful SUV thanks to its potent core -- a monstrous 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged W12 engine.

This W12 engine can deliver up to 600 hp (447 kW) of output and up to 663 lb.-ft. of peak torque, allowing the Bentayga to sprint from a standstill to 60 mph in just 4.0 seconds and eventually reach a top speed of 187 mph (300 km/h). Massive, isn’t it? For DMC, however, it wasn’t enough. That is why this German tuner decided to place its stakes higher and create what it dubbed as the DMC Bentley Bentayga "Gigante."

As the DMC moniker infers, this tuned Gigante is a giant compared to the already powerful Bentley Bentayga. DMC was thorough in making sure the stock 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged W12 engine is tuned to deliver more output and torque.

By employing performance-related tweaks like a smart engine management system and a new high-performance exhaust system, DMC was able to significantly hike the power levels of this 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged W12 engine to 700 hp (521 kW) of max output and 778 lb.-ft. (1,055 Nm) of peak torque. Moreover, top speed has also been raised from 187 mph (300 km/h) to 193 mph (310 km/h).

Of course, the upgrades implemented weren’t limited to the power levels – although such immense modifications should be really noted and emphasized. Exterior and interior modifications especially for a bespoke luxury SUV like the Bentley Bentayga are not rare. However, a power upgrade on this level is worthy of note. As for the DMC Gigante, its overwhelming power is matched by its modified exterior.

On the front end, the DMC Gigante features a new carbon fiber hood, carbon fiber side skirts, and a carbon fiber trim on the rear. It rides on a new set of massive forged aluminum wheels available in sizes 22 inches, 23 inches and 24 inches. These carbon fiber component should make the Gigante lighter than a typical Bentayga.

Meanwhile, the interior of this DMC-tuned Bentley Bentayga Gigante comes with hand-stitched floor mats as well as a customized carbon fiber steering wheel with Italian leather accents. If these aren’t enough, DMC is willing to employ this treat to the whole interior at an extra charge. Of course, the Bentayga already offers an opulent interior that is fit for royalty (note: Queen Elizabeth II owns a plush Bentayga as one of her royal rides). It is laden with an array of entertainment and comfort systems like backseat screens and Wi-Fi (entertainment) as well as heating, cooling and massage functions on the seats (comfort).

Audi recently unveiled its Q8 full-size coupe SUV concept at the 2017 North American International Auto Show. Bearing the traditional functionality of an SUV and the sexy and sporty styling cues of a coupe, the Audi Q8 Concept is a near-production study. As such, we could expect most of the design and styling cues on the Audi Q8 Concept shown at the Detroit Auto Show to be brought over to the final production version.

More often than not, the final production version of a certain vehicle looks and feels different from its concept, prototype or design study. Auto companies typically make the vehicle concept more radical, more attractive and more fascinating – all for the sake of catching the attention of the public. By the time the carmaker unveils the production version, it has already been toned down.

Likewise, while a concept is already a near-production model, some design and styling cues might still not make it to the production version. Knowing these, auto styling specialist X-Tomi Design of Tard, Hungary has rendered a version of the Audi Q8 Concept that has been toned down to look like a production version.

X-Tomi got rid of the more radical design cues of the Audi Q8 Concept to create what it deems as the possible final production appearance of this full-size SUV study. To tone down the somewhat revolutionary look of the Audi Q8 Concept, X-Tomi modulated the styling of the grille and the side mirror casings. In addition, X-Tomi toned down the looks of the wheels. Perhaps, the most noticeable styling tweak that X-Tomi implemented on the Audi Q8 Concept is the visual appearance of the headlights.

The headlights on the Audi Q8 Concept feature a radical look thanks to its clear geometry. X-Tomi changed this by employing the headlight design as found on the smaller and current range-topping Audi Q7. Now, there you have it – an Audi Q8 in possible production form, ready to take on the BMW X6 and the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe.

Due to be released in 2018 as a 2019 model, the new Q8 features a “coupe-like” design but still boasts of enough space for its passengers – thanks to its long wheelbase measuring 3.0 meters. The near-production concept shown at the Detroit Auto Show features a hybrid system already being employed in Audi’s production vehicles.

The new Q8 Concept is provided with a 3.0-liter turbocharged engine that delivers 443 hp in output, an electric motor and an eight-speed automatic transmission. This hybrid powertrain provides the Audi Q8 Concept with 516.3 lb-ft of torque, allowing it to spring from nil to 62mph in under 5.2 seconds while achieving a top speed of 155 mph.

Off-road driving with an open air vehicle provides another kind of experience for many off-road enthusiasts and fans. For this sake, Ford is planning to offer a version of the next generation Ford Bronco SUV which has a roof that could be removed.

Yes, the Ford Bronco will be returning back to life in 2020 and the American carmaker is reportedly intent on creating a version that allows its owners to remove and reattach the roof as they desire (removable roof). This was divulged by The Truth About Cars (TTAC), whose people managed to tell two well-placed sources within Ford that it will have a special feature called Air Roof that could transform the 2020 Ford Bronco from a full-closed SUV into an open air off-road specialist.

TTAC reported that the Air Roof system will be made up of several panels – up to six maybe – that can be removed when desired, with storage set within the Bronco. It remains unknown whether the panels will be made from glass, carbon fiber, metal or composite plastic. Most likely, the 2020 Ford Bronco will feature fixed roof rails. This means that only the roof panels could be removed but not the rails.

Fiat Chrysler offers something similar to Ford’s Air Roof system. Most likely, this would be offered as an available feature for the 2018 Jeep Wrangler. For the Wrangler, Jeep will employ three roof panels extending from the front to the back. Interestingly, the revived 2020 Ford Bronco would be a good competitor for the Jeep Wrangler.

Ford has confirmed the arrival of the Bronco at the 2017 North American International Auto Show (Detroit Auto Show) by the end of the decade, right after the US carmaker re-launches the Ford Ranger into the country in 2019. This means we will be able to see a revived version by the end of the decade – or around 24 years after Ford discontinued the production of the SUV with the bucking bronco logo in 1996. However, whether there would an open-air version of the Bronco has yet to be confirmed by the carmaker. Should the reports be true, and TTAC’s sources are as credible as they could be, then quite a number of customers would be delighted.

While no details have been officially confirmed, the new Bronco is expected to be underpinned by a revised version of the European T6 platform that currently underpins the current Ranger. This means that that the Bronco would be a proper body-on-frame SUV. The last generation of the Ford Bronco was derived from the F-150 pickup truck.

The new Ford Bronco will be one of the four or five new utility vehicles that the US carmaker is planning to introduce into its lineup. Ford is planning to produce the Bronco alongside the Ford Ranger at its Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne, Michigan.

Daimler Group CEO Dr. Dieter Zetsche somehow confirmed that there will be a new SUV in their lineup. This announcement came from the CEO himself while on a press meeting at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show. Unfortunately, he didn’t go over the details. According to Zetsche, “I’d like to say you will be seeing it, but I’ll leave it at that.”

According to rumors, the luxury SUV will be wearing a Maybach badge. If that’s the case, the SUV will be among Mercedes’ Maybach division which also includes the limited edition S650 Cabriolet. For sure, not everyone would be pleased with the idea but some people would also want an SUV with all the luxurious appointments. Even if it gets delayed for a few more years, we think a Mercedes-Maybach SUV would be more than amazing.

Besides, don’t you think it’s about time that Mercedes-Benz comes up with an ultra-posh SUV? In any case, the German brand’s luxury sport utility vehicle will be pitted against Lamborghini’s Urus, Rolls Royce’s Cullinan and of course, Bentley’s Bentayga model.

There are no details yet on whether the SUV will be following the GLS footprint or if it will be creating the electrified version. While Matthias Luhrs thinks that it’s “too early to say”, at least they are keeping an open mind about this idea.

Come to think of it; the supposed SUV model was first thought to be a GLS, which is relatively the same as the S-Class. Or it could be because of the S-Class’ recent foray into the Maybach division. Either way, this is probably how all the Mercedes-Maybach speculations have started.

As far as we know, the AMG and Maybach divisions are also heading towards electrification. At least according to Auto Express UK’s recent interview with Dr. Jens Thiemer. He had said that they are going to call it “EQ-ing.” In line with this, Mercedes-AMG’s Project One hypercar (based on the W07 Formula One’s hybrid powertrain) is also expected to have its production debut this 2017. So the timing is quite right.

In one way or another, it looks like electrification will rule the car industry in the near future. Since our favorite car brands have started to jump into the pure electric and plugin hybid bandwagon, an electrified luxury SUV is certainly not a bad idea. Green is always the “in” thing nowadays. And if Mercedes’ upcoming SUV will take on the full-size GLS version, one thing’s for sure, it’s going to be really great.

Volkswagen revealed that in order to continue the success it has been facing in the U.S. market, it will need to focus more on sports utility vehicles and crossovers. This is, of course, in addition to exerting more effort to get the public to increase their trust in the brand. That said, the brand is expected to release to the U.S. the much-awaited Atlas this spring with the long-wheelbase Tiguan to follow later. Both models made their debuts at the 2017 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

In line with this, Volkswagen disclosed that the base version of the Atlas will be priced at $30,000. This is the same variant that will be equipped with the turbocharged four-cylinder 2.0-liter and have the front-wheel drive.

Officials at brand added, without revealing too much, that the top range of the Atlas is estimated to cost about $48,000. Most likely, this refers to the SEL version which comes with the all-wheel drive, fitted with the V6 engine, and equipped with a number of new features. Volkswagen, however, did not say whether this will also be the price for the R-Line trim, which like the two models mentioned earlier, was presented during the current Detroit Auto Show.

The R-Line brings with it new side skirts with the body placed on 20-inch wheels. Bumpers for both the front section and the rear end are now more distinct. However, for the interior, there have only been a few changes made like the small R placed on the steering wheel, and the R-Line logo that can be seen on its infotainment screen when starting, to name a few.

Once the Atlas is officially released to the U.S. market and the Tiguan after, the brand will then launch two additional SUVs to the market. The third model is likely the new Touareg.

While there is no word yet on what the fourth utility vehicle may be, car enthusiasts are prodicting that it will be smaller, likely just a level below the Tiguan. Regardless of what the two models may be, the brand hopes to have all four in the market by the year 2020.

Finally, the brand said as well that with regards to its plans for the U.S. market, electric vehicles will play a significant part. Initially, this will be for new models but it will eventually include both the SUV and crossover range in the future. Volkswagen has already given customers and fans alike an idea of what its electrification strategy is with the recent presentation of the I.D. Buzz Concept. The concept car is a futuristic version of the Microbus and while it does look excellent, it remains to be far from being feasible in terms of production.

Tesla is being sued by a famous South Korean actor and singer because his Tesla Model X electric SUV allegedly accelerated and crashed into his house in California.

As reported by Reuters, Ji-chang Son is claiming that while he was slowly driving his Tesla Model X into his driveway on September 10, 2016, the SUV suddenly accelerated at full power, “jerking forward” and then crashing through the interior wall of the garage.

It ultimately halted in his living room. Son filed a lawsuit in United States District Court in the Central District of California, seeking class action status based on seven previously reported cases of alleged sudden acceleration events involving Tesla vehicles as compiled by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Son’s lawsuit alleges product liability as well as negligence and breaches of warranty. He is also seeking still undetermined damages.

Tesla, however, has given its side to the issue. Citing data logs from Son’s Model X, Tesla concluded that the crash was a result of the actor pressing the accelerator pedal all the way to 100 percent. This means that Tesla is effectively denying the existence of sudden unintended acceleration problem with the Model X. This also means that the real fault on the accident lies – not with the Tesla SUV – but with Son. As soon as Son fully pressed the accelerator pedal, the Model X accelerated – a scenario that Tesla is painting in response to the class action lawsuit.

There have been several other cases of alleged sudden unintended acceleration in which – after investigation – the event was actually caused by pressing the accelerator instead of the brake pedal. This could also be the case of Son’s Model X, as the actor alleges that he was slowly entering his garage to park his SUV. Instead of fully pressing the brake pedal to bring the Model X to a complete stop, Son claimed that he stepped on the accelerator pedal. A sad turn of events then occurred, and Son’s house was damaged because of the accident.

But there is more to Tesla’s response on Son’s lawsuit. Tesla said in a statement that Son threatened to use his celebrity status in South Korea to hurt the carmaker unless it agreed to pay the actor and admit that the Model X did accelerate on its own. However, Tesla refused to do so since the evidence (the data logs from Son’s vehicle) shows that the Model X wasn’t at fault. Tesla added that it is its policy to stand by the gathered evidence and to not to “give in to ultimatums.”

Ultimately, it was Tesla’s refusal to give in to Son’s demand that pushed the South Korean actor to proceed with the lawsuit – if Tesla is to be believed.

Now, who is telling the truth – Tesla or Son?

Will Lamborghini ever offer a plug-in hybrid? The sports car maker has been known to create wonderfully dynamic products powered by potent conventional engines. It turns out, Lamborghini is also keen on offering a plug-in hybrid vehicle in the guise of the Lamborghini Urus.

This was confirmed by Maurizio Reggiani, chief of research and development at Lamborghini to AutoCar. However, Lamborghini Urus plug-in hybrid is just one of several versions of the new SUV.

Lamborghini will still offer Urus with a conventional powertrain. Yes, the top men at Lamborghini had already revealed the new Urus SUV will be powered by a 4.8-liter biturbo V8 engine, which should make this yet unrevealed model the fastest SUV in the market upon launch. Actually, this V8 engine is the same powerplant already fitted in Porsche Panamera Turbo, in which it was able to deliver 404 kW (542 hp) of peak output and 770 Nm (568 lb.-ft.) of max torque. The power levels for the Lamborghini Urus remain unknown, although there are speculations that the carmaker would tune it for greater output.

Once launched, the Urus plug-in hybrid will be the first of its kind at Lamborghini. Moreover, it will be the only plug-in hybrid vehicle in the sports car maker’s lineup. Lamborghini had already indicated its intentions to offer a hybridized vehicle by unveiling the Asterion LPI910-4 plug-in hybrid concept at the 2014 Paris Auto Show. Its hybrid powertrain includes a 5.2-liter aspirated V10 engine with selective IDS (Iniezione Diretta Stratificata) and three electric motors.

The V10 engine provides 610 hp (449 kW) of max output at 8,250 rpm while the electric motors deliver 300 hp (221 kW) of output. This means that the Lamborghini Asterion concept offers 910 hp (669 kW) of total max output. Aside from having too much power, the Lamborghini Asterion concept is also very efficient, consuming just 4 liters of fuel per 100 km and emitting only 98 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer.

Sadly, there had been no news about the Lamborghini Asterion. So far, we’ve received no updates too on whether it would be transformed into a production model. But its hybrid powertrain is surely something. Whether Asterion’s hybrid powertrain would be fitted on the Lamborghini Urus plug-in hybrid remains unknown, but at least we have an idea on what the sports carmaker intends to use for its new electric-gasoline SUV.

Underpinning the new Urus is the same platform that underpins the Audi Q7 and the Bentley Bentayga – the Volkswagen Group MLB platform. As for its V8 engine, Reggiani said it will surely employ turbocharging, since as an SUV, the Urus needs massive torque levels -- unlike its super sports cars that employ normally aspirated engines that are known for their responsiveness.

Lamborghini is expected to unveil the Urus in 2017 and commence its sales in 2018, although it remains unclear whether the plug-in hybrid version would be available at launch.

With the new generation of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class expected to be unveiled sometime in 2017, a lot of people are already getting thrilled and excited on how the next-gen would work and look like. This could be mainly because the current generation of the G Class has been so well-accepted and well-liked. In fact, the current generation of the G Class has been in existence since 1990 and a replacement model has yet to be unveiled by Mercedes-Benz. Since then, the G Class has been one of the favorite vehicles that aftermarket tuners have wanted to modify.

One of these tuners is Germany-based tuning company Mansory. This known tuner was able to create a wide body chassis program for the Mercedes-Benz G Class, making the SUV look more aggressive yet ruggedly handsome on the road and off the road. This wide body chassis program includes extensions and carbon fiber components, as complemented by dynamic alloy wheels, an elegant interior and a significant bump in performance. All of these improvements could also be fitted on the Mercedes G350, G500, G63, and G65.

So, what do we specifically get? Well, the G wide body kit from Mansory includes carbon fiber fender flares, front and rear bumper as well as door skins. Once fitted, the G wide body kit – available at a starting price of EUR18,900 excluding value added tax -- extends the serial chassis of the G Class by around 40 mm (or 20 mm on each side). For those who think that the kit isn’t good enough, they could have their G Class fitted with carbon fiber hood, roof panel and a roof spoiler. They could also choose between two or four position lights. These carbon fiber elements could be further complemented by carbon fiber rear-view mirror housing, headlight covers, door handles, and A pillar paneling.

If these are not enough, customers could have their G Class ride on large alloy wheels measuring 21 inches, 22 inches, or 23 inches. For discerning clients, Mansory is offering special 23-inch M8 double-spoke light alloy wheels with a wheel hub cover that is always horizontally aligned. These wheels could be wrapped in 305/35R23 tires.

Of course, the interior of the G Class could be customized by Mansory according to the wishes of customers. Masonry employs the finest materials in carbon and Alcantara leather to make the interior of the G Class more suitable to customers’ taste, like on its seats, dashboard, headliner and carpet fittings.

The changes are of course not complete without any revisions to the engine of the G Class. For instance, Masonry tuned the bi-turbo 5.5-liter V8 engine in the AMG G63 to develop more power than its usual output of 563 hp (420 kW) and torque of 560 lb.-ft. (760 Nm). In particular, Masonry fitted racing elements on the V8 engine like racing engine pistons, cylinder head, connecting rod bearings, connecting rods and crankshaft. Moreover, this engine is provided with a newly designed exhaust system with double stainless-steel tailpipes. These upgrades allowed the V8 engine to deliver an output of 840 hp (618 kW) and an electronically restricted torque of 848 lb-ft (1,150 Nm).

Driving on well-paved roads is pretty easy, especially if you are behind the wheel of a new Nissan X-Trail. Managing through some rough roads and rugged terrain would not be as easy, but the Nissan X-Trail should still be able to pull through. But, how about driving on a desert?

Sure enough, driving on a desert is not an easy thing to accomplish. It is basically because the desert is literally filled with sand. Traction, handling and steering are different when one is on the desert. Pushing the brakes too hard or slamming hard on the accelerator could push the tires into the sand. There is also the challenge of managing through giant sand dunes. Essentially, the fear of driving on the desert is related to getting stuck in the sand.

But this is not a concern with this Nissan X-Trail on the video. This Nissan X-Trail is not your ordinary X-Trail. After all, it is the Nissan X-Trail Desert Warrior, which as its name indicates, is all-set and prepped to bring the driving battle to the desert. Obviously, this Nissan X-Trail Desert Warrior features no wheels. It is fitted with a set of probably customized metal tracks that allow the Nissan X-Trail Desert Warrior to traverse the sandy desert sans any major difficulties. While there are tires suitable for challenging the desert, these metal tracks are more suitable in gaining better traction, improving handling and enhancing steering.

The video – a promotional two-minute clip created or commissioned by the Japanese carmaker – starts off with a brief yet precise description of the desert, in the Arab language. Around 14 seconds into the video, a red Nissan X-Trail Desert Warrior enters the scene, accommodating three occupants. This red Nissan X-Trail Desert Warrior is seen battling the sand dunes, leaving a trail behind.

However, in the middle of the desert adventure of this trio, they ran out of water. So, they cruised and battled the desert once more until they found a tent where a man was more than willing to give them some water to quench their thirst. Interestingly, this guy also brought a white regular Nissan X-Trail. These four men took off with the white Nissan X-Trail, and once again challenged the desert. If there is something that this video promotes, it is that a conventional Nissan X-Trail with conventional wheels is capable of dynamically making its way through the desert and starting a new adventure.

Nissan’s marketers deserve a round of applause for this work. It was good enough to show that the Nissan X-Trail is also a vehicle that is capable of tackling the desert environment – a campaign aimed at attracting customers in markets like the Middle East. However, the Nissan X-Trail Desert Warrior is not for sale. It is a marketing tool especially created for the Jeddah International Exhibition and Convention Center, in Saudi Arabia.

Though Mercedes-Benz has yet to release the new generation of the G-Class, there have been a number of photos going around showing what it could look like.

However it appears that a photo is now making rounds which give us a first look at this latest offering that appears to have a long wheelbase. This means that when compared to the current version, the new generation will have a stretched out look. In addition to having a longer wheelbase, the new chassis fitted to it is lower by around 440 lbs. (200 kg), making it lighter compared to the present version. It is also wider by 4 in. (10 cm).

The test mule shows that on the front end, many of the features continue to follow what have been previously seen. One minor change though appears to be the use of a single-bar grille rather that the open design or the three-slat version already revealed. Still, the long wheelbase means that there is a high possibility that the back will offer additional room. This is assuming of course that no spare wheel is placed on this end. No other details have been revealed as the way the brand managed to cover this test mule is more than effective. It made it difficult to see if any changes have been made on the tail.

In terms of power, there remains to be no word on what will be equipped under the hood. However there is the likelihood that it will have the 4.0-liter biturbo V8 engine, the same one in the regular sized G63. Actual output would depend on the tuning but it can reach 603 hp (450 kW) which is what the E63 currently delivers.

According to the brand, the G-Class may make its official debut during the latter part of 2017. However, as images of the long-wheelbase version have been seen, it is likely that development may start soon. For those who want the larger G-Class, the earliest it could arrive would be during 2018.

New colors for the leather will be offered as well for the interior like mocha brown, saddle brown, silk beige, and deep-sea blue. Mercedes-Benz had also announced that the Night package will be offered as a designo option. With this, the roof, fender flares, mirror housings, and bumper will be painted in obsidian black metallic. For the other features, there are the tinted red windows and the black rub strip inlays. Meanwhile the light-alloy wheels show that they have a black finish.

For those who have the G 63 and G 65, Mercedes-Benz will allow customers to avail of the DINAMICA Interior package. The package includes DINAMICA upholstery on almost all parts of the interior. Its microfiber sport steering wheel will have the DINAMICA/nappa leather in black.

A number of car enthusiasts have long wanted to have a peek at the Urus but Lamborghini is not giving in and continues to hide it from prying eyes. Thus when Rowan Horncastle of Top Gear revealed on Twitter an image of a possible test mule for the Urus, a lot of people were excited. From the photo, it looked to be a camouflaged test mule that was sitting idly at the Munich airport’s parking garage. However it has been revealed that it was not what it was believed to be as a Lamborghini dealer based in Nürnberg, Germany, said that they were the ones who created this model using a Q7. This was done in the hopes of building the hype for the Urus.

The mistake is not surprising considering that using design style of the Q7 does make sense as the Urus utilizes the same platform as that of the Audi. This is the MLB platform of the Volkswagen Group which is also used by the Porsche Cayenne and even the Bentley Bentayga. Using similar foundations in developing the new model, the engineering team can simply put on new parts on a model having the same chassis and immediately start testing.

While the final look has yet to be revealed, executives at Lamborghini did say that the new Urus will be fitted with the 4.8-liter biturbo V8 engine, possibly making it the fastest SUV there is. This same engine is already on the Porsche Panamera Turbo and has shown output of 404 kW (542 hp) with maximum torque of 770 Nm (568 lb.-ft.). There is a chance though that Lamborghini may still tune this to give it more power output. The same executives did disclose that for the production version of the Urus, its appearance will be almost similar to the concept already shown.

Going back to Horncastle’s photo, what made fans excited was not only because the base version appeared to be the Audi Q7 but also on the various enhancements done by the brand. The branded tape for instance was apparent on the grille. Still the clue that this may not be an official Urus would have been the fact that the nose was blunt rather than a sharp one. However the way the masking was done on the headlights served as a clue to the edgy styling the brand is known for. Another different with the concept was that the hood was round though vents were still seen on the area. There is even an Urus decal seen on the door.

Fans though will have their wait shortened as the Urus is expected to make its debut in 2018. This means details for this new crossover will arrive any time soon.

The first generation of the Chevrolet Traverse has been on the market for a while. In fact, it has been sold around the world since 2008, when it was first sold for the 2009 model year. And guess what? The long overdue new model is finally coming, and it will make its global debut at the 2017 North American International Auto Show (also known as Detroit Auto Show) on January 9 to 22.

According to Chevrolet, the next-generation Traverse will complete the transformation of its crossover and SUV lineup. The Traverse is the last of Chevrolet’s SUVs and crossovers to receive a major overhaul. The new Chevrolet Traverse will be laden with a wide array of changes in both the exterior and the interior. It will also be fitted with new technologies available.

For instance, the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse could be specified with the available D-Optic headlamps that could deliver a natural daylight effect. Inside, the new 2018 Chevrolet Traverse will feature a refined interior that could comfortably accommodate up to eight passengers while offering the most cargo room in its segment. Moreover, passengers sitting in the third row would be able to enjoy leg room that is also the best in its segment.

A successor to both now defunct Chevrolet Uplander and TrailBlazer, the first generation of the Chevrolet Traverse made its debut at the 2008 Chicago Auto Show and arrived at dealerships in October 2008 as the 2009 model. Since then, the Chevrolet Traverse has been refreshed and slightly modified through the years. Its 2013 model year iteration received a major facelift, receiving a new grill and redesigned rear liftgate.

For those who can’t wait for the next-generation Traverse, the 2017 model is still up for grabs. Available from a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price of $29,595, the 2017 Chevrolet Traverse is powered by a 3.6L DOHC V6 engine -- with Direct Injection -- that delivers 281 hp (288 hp with dual exhaust) of output and 266 lb-ft (270 lb-ft with dual exhaust) of torque.

The Volkswagen Atlas is yet to be sold in the US but it does look like the company is already preparing to expand its client base. As earlier reported, Volkswagen of America will be exporting the big SUV to Russia and will be using an exclusive 2.0 litre 4-cylinder diesel for its engine. This was revealed during the press interview at the Los Angeles Auto Show with Juergen Stackmann. When asked to comment whether the Atlas is going to be sold in Western Europe, Stackmann stated that the company has been eyeing Russia.

At the same event, Volkswagen’s head for Sales and Marketing also mentioned that they are considering other countries. But no other country has been specifically named afterwards. Instead, the Atlas will also be available in China beginning next year under the name Teramont. It is also believed that the Teramont will be slightly modified for its market. Considering this, Volkswagen has already confirmed that the particular model will be assembled locally in China and will not come from the US.

The Atlas was actually inspired by the CrossBlue concept three years before. Like this, it was created with Volkswagen’s MQB modular design platform. In fact, Audi A3 and Volkswagen Golf have been using the same platform as well. All these years, Volkswagen has picked out names that start with the letter T for its mid-size SUVs.

Apart from Touareg, there’s also the VW Tiguan crossover vehicle. The Atlas meanwhile has been named Teramont but only for China.

There are no reports yet if the model bound for Russia will be offered with just one engine variant. The US version as we know will be powered by 3.6 litre naturally aspirated V6 gasoline and 2.0 litre turbocharged engines. The exclusive-for-China SUV or the Teramont, which was only introduced last month in Beijing will come with 2.5 litre V6 and 2.0 litre petrol engines.

Stackmann described the Atlas as the longest three-row SUV that they have ever developed. The Atlas (or Teramont) measures 5.03 metres long or 198.3 inches to be exact. He went on to say that the “bold” SUV has already captured the American market this early. The 7-seater SUV is 1.5 inches wider and about ten inches longer than the Volkswagen Touareg.

Volkswagen will build the new Atlas at the Chattanooga factory in the US and had invested around nine million dollars to manufacture the new SUV together with Passat. Since the company is further reinforcing its SUV segment in the country, a longer wheelbase of its Tiguan SUV will be exported next year from Mexico.

Boring. This was how a designer from German carmaker Volkswagen described one of its newest offerings – the new Volkswagen Atlas SUV. VW unveiled the Atlas at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show in November, saying that this new mid-size crossover – slotted between the compact Tiguan and upmarket Touareg – is created and designed to appease customers in the United States. Would that really be the case?

In a conversation with The Truth About Cars during the LA Auto Show, this unnamed VW designer quipped that the VW Atlas is visually boring, with a design that is four years old. He also compared the new Atlas to a Ford vehicle from the 2012 model year.

Visually, the 2018 VW Atlas has its own appeal. Apparently, VW doesn’t want its new SUV to be too aggressive in terms of design. Rather, the VW Atlas, as head of VW Design Klaus Bischoff out it, should look substantial, with a styling that would age well and would go out of fashion in the next two to three years. But for this certain VW designer at the LA Auto Show, the design of the Atlas has been out of style for four years. If there is anything that VW could really be targeting, it could the tendency of American buyers to opt for vehicles offering generous interior space.

In terms of design, the 2018 VW Atlas employs VW’s current design language and is underpinned by the brand’s Modular Transverse Matrix architecture, or MQB. With dimensions of 198.3 inches in length, 77.9 inches in width and 69.6 inches in height, the Atlas is larger (plus 121 mm longer, 38 mm wider and 35 mm taller) than the Touareg. With these measurements, the 2018 VW Atlas is the largest SUV from the carmaker to be built in the US. However, Licharz noted that the new Atlas might be too big to be parked in many European garages.

The new 2018 Atlas is part of VW’s is part of Volkswagen’s plans to establish itself as an expert in all-wheel-drive capability and to further penetrate the US market. This new SUV will also be offered in China as the VW Teramont. Upon launch in the US, the 2018 Atlas will be offered with two powertrains: a turbocharged direct-injection 2.0-liter 4-cylinder TSI engine offering up to 238 hp (177 kW) of output and a 3.6-liter VR6 engine delivering up to 280 hp (208 kW) of output.

Both engines are paired to an eight-speed transmission. The Teramont, meanwhile, will be available with three powertrain options – two versions of 2.0-liter TFSI engine (186hp and 220hp of outputs) and a 2.5-liter V6 TFSI engine providing 299 hp of output. All Teramont engines are mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The Yuletide season has come and Land Rover seems very eager to show off the capabilities of its new Discovery Sport. Land Rover has been fond of pulling some publicity stunts to attract public attention to its products and their capabilities – a great work of marketing, nonetheless.

This time around, Land Rover created a small portable wilderness cabin – with a Christmas theme – that could be assembled and disassembled according to the whims of the customer. Once disassembled, this wilderness cabin could be accommodated perfectly into the cargo room of the Land Rover Discovery Sport.

This portable wilderness cabin, when properly installed, has a total area of 38 square feet (3.5 square meters) – which could be considered as small, but is still bigger than a large bed. This space should be enough to allow its users to relax and enjoy the view of the surroundings through its large windows. Of course, this portable cabin features Christmas decorations and a solar roof panel for charging phones. To power up the lights, users just need to plug them into the Discovery Sport’s 12-volt charger. Just like the ride height of the Discovery Sport, the cabin stands 212 mm off the ground.

Once customers decide it is time to pack up, they could neatly disassemble the cabin support structure, floor, walls and roof into smaller pieces and load them into the cargo room, with all rear seats folded down. The cabin’s decorations, lights, nuts and bolts are stowed into the Discovery Sport’s glove compartment, cupholders and door bins.

This stunt effectively preaches the versatility and cargo-holding capability of the new Discovery Sport. Small items could be accommodated into smaller storage compartments inside the mid-size SUV. Meanwhile, larger items could be safely secured into the trunk of the Discovery Sport, which could hold up to 60 liters of cargo. It also implicitly preaches the versatility of the Discovery Sport, which comes with a powered gesture tailgate that allows customers to open or close the tailgate – to load or unload any cargo – just by placing one’s foot underneath the rear of the vehicle. Likewise, the stunt implicitly preaches the chassis and suspension power of the Discovery Sport; after all, 60 liters of solid material should be a heavy load.

To ensure that the disassembled cabin – which was made from sustainable materials with the help of Danish architects LUMO -- fits into the trunk of the Discovery Sport, Land Rover employed virtual models.

In the middle of 2016, Land Rover released a YouTube video showing off its pulling power -- 317 lb.-ft. of torque – by towing three railway carriages with a combined weight of 108 tons. At 1,400 rpm and 8 mph, the Discovery Sport slowly but surely pulled the train across a bridge without any issue.
