Land Rover to unveil new Range Rover Velar coupe-SUV on March 1, 2017

Soon, Land Rover will have four Range Rover offerings. Yes, the British auto company is adding a new model to its Range Rover lineup – the new Range Rover Velar coupe-SUV. If all goes well, Land Rover will reveal the new Range Rover Velar coupe-SUV to the global public on March 1, 2017, when the carmaker will also unfurl juicier details about its new offering.

According to the image of the four Range Rover SUVs, the new Range Rover Velar will be filling a slot between the Range Rover Evoque and the Range Rover Sport. This means that the Range Rover Sport wouldn’t be the second smallest member of the lineup anymore, although it would remain as the second largest Range Rover. As a result of the addition of the Range Rover Velar, there will be a new size hierarchy in the Range Rover family. The smallest would be the Range Rover Evoque, followed by the Range Rover Velar and the Range Rover Sport. Still dominating the family in terms of size is the Range Rover.

The new Range Rover Velar will try to build on the success of the Range Rover Evoque, which was one of the main reasons why Jaguar Land Rover was able to report a huge surge in sales in full year 2016. For those who find the Range Rover Evoque too cramped but also consider the Range Rover Sport too large, the Range Rover Velar should be a good choice. In addition, the new Range Rover Velar should also be able to close the price gap between the Range Rover Evoque (£40,000) and the Range Rover Sport (£80,000). This means that customers who see the Range Rover Evoque as too small but couldn’t afford the Range Rover Evoque don’t have to cancel or delay their purchase.

SsangYong to unveil XAVL SUV Concept at 2017 Geneva Auto Show

SsangYong Motor Company revealed that it will be officially unveiling the XAVL SUV Concept during the 2017 International Geneva Motor Show on March 9-19, 2017.

XAVL stands for “eXciting Authentic Vehicle Long” and there is no doubt that it was the classic Korando model, released sometime during the 1990s, that served as its inspiration. It has a muscular and strong appearance that combined with innovative convenience features as well as the practicality present in a multi-purpose MPV. Inside, the XAVL concept can fit comfortably a total of seven passengers.

2018 Ford Expedition expected to come with a more powerful EcoBoost engine

Having a 400 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque is a tremendous advantage. Yet Ford hasn’t formally announced the numbers regarding its latest Ford Expedition. The current SUV as we know delivers up to 365hp and 420lb-ft of torque coming from its 3.5 twinturbo V6 power machine.

However, according to Ford Canada’s promotional website, the updated EcoBoost engine is good for at least 298kW and 651 Nm of torque. But then again, there has been no official statement at this point. Ford doesn’t want to talk about it yet either and said that they are still waiting for those numbers to be approved. Considering the numbers were correct, it only means that the new 2018 Ford Expedition will be much powerful than the Lincoln Navigator.

Interestingly, the Ford Expedition’s updated engine will be mated to a 10-speed automatic gearbox. Ford is also offering a choice between a four wheel and a rear-wheel drive system. Aside from those, there are strings of other updates in store for the big SUV such as the revised aluminum body frame, which helped in cutting down as much as 136 kilograms.

Latvian carmaker Dartz offers ultra-lavish AMG GLS63-based Prombon Black Alligator

An SUV that is lavishly comfortable and has a practical nature. That is how we could describe the Mercedes-AMG GLS63. It is easily the S Class of the SUV segment, which makes it among the most generously luxurious utility vehicles in the world. When specified with available options, AMG GLS63 won’t lose easily to other premium seven-seater SUVs in the world, both in terms of luxury and sportiness. Even the price of the AMG GLS63 is already opulent, with a premium of around $30,000 over its Mercedes-Benz GLS550 sibling.

However, the luxurious character of a typical AMG GLS63 pales compared to a recent creation of notorious Latvian auto firm Dartz whose ancestor company was responsible for building luxurious coaches for Russian Tsars. Now, Dartz is continuing this legacy and its own notoriety by offering extra-luxurious creations, the latest of which is the 2017 Dartz Prombon Black Alligator that is based on the AMG GLS63.

Before you make any quick conclusions, this AMG GLS63-based work has been dubbed as the Prombon Black Alligator but it is not just about the looks. Yes, this bespoke creation – judging from the teaser image provided by Dartz – looks like a black alligator ready to pounce on its prey. However, that is not all. This Prombon Black Alligator actually uses alligator skin for its interior – including on its seats and on the steering wheel. Moreover, Dartz seems to be a fan of the “name it, we have it” business philosophy, as it also offers the use of materials derived from the skins of stingrays, sheep, ostriches, crocodiles, pythons and sharks. No wonder Dartz has gained so much notoriety.

If you are wondering why this Alfa Romeo SUV being shown at the 2017 Chicago Auto Show looks so familiar, wonder no more. Well, it is because it is identical to the Alfa Romeo Stelvio SUV that was unveiled by the Italian carmaker at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show.

When we say these models are identical, we mean that they are the same. While Alfa Romeo showed both the base and higher-end versions of the Stelvio in LA, the one shown in Chicago is only the performance variant. Simply put, the version being shown at 2017 Chicago Auto Show sits at the top of the range of the Stelvio SUV model. Welcome, the dynamics-focused Stelvio QV or Stelvio Quadrifoglio.

As far as the looks of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio is concerned, it might be easier to describe this SUV as the taller and more practical version of the Alfa Romeo Giulia sedan. This shouldn’t surprise us since the Stelvio SUV has essentially adopted the design language found in the Giulia sedan. The Stelvio also features flowing headlights, muscular wings and a large triangular grille – as found on the Giulia sedan.

Quite a number of hearts were broken when a test mule -- believed to be the new Lamborghini Urus -- seen at the Munich airport turned out to be a camouflaged Audi Q7 SUV. However, that didn’t reduce interest in the new Urus and instead, it even caused more people to become curious about Lamborghini’s first-ever SUV.

This time, we are hoping that it is the real Lamborghini Urus that was recently spotted being driven on the roads of Denmark. Pro-street.dk reported the sighting, which involved what’s speculated to be a heavily camouflaged Lamborghini Urus.

With Stefano Domenicali, chief executive of Lamborghini Automobili, saying that the luxury sports car maker would soon unfurl more details about the Urus in the next few weeks, a global debut of the production version of the SUV at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show in March could be expected. This implies that the camouflaged test mule spotted in Denmark could be the closest final production form of the new Lamborghini Urus. It may even be the actual model already.

As a full-size sports utility vehicle, the Ford Expedition should really be large and spacious. For the 2018 model year, Ford has made the Expedition full-size SUV larger and more spacious than its predecessor, but there is a big twist to the game of giants – it is much lighter.

Typically, adding size and space would result to an addition in overall weight. But this is not the case with 2016 Ford Expedition – it is larger, roomier and lighter. Of course, the power source underneath remains the same, although Ford has vowed to upgrade it to something better.

For the 2018 model year, the standard-length Ford Expedition is around four inches longer than its predecessor. Its wheelbase has also been increased by around three inches. These increase in measurements should allow this full-size SUV to offer more interior room, including those for the cargo. The roominess of the Expedition’s interior is complemented by its outstanding flexibility.

The next generation of the Porsche Cayenne is bound to arrive in the 2018 model year, sending hordes of fans and enthusiasts into bouts of thrill and excitement. But while the current generation of the Porsche Cayenne is now on the verge of ending its life cycle, the frenzy for it hasn’t ended yet. This is because Porsche is introducing to the public two new special editions – the 2017 Porsche Cayenne S Platinum Edition and the 2017 Porsche Cayenne S Diesel Platinum Edition.

The new Porsche Cayenne S Platinum Edition and the new Porsche Cayenne S Diesel Platinum Edition will be the latest addition to the sports car maker’s Platinum Edition portfolio. In April 2016, Porsche launched the Platinum Edition, with the Cayenne Diesel and the Cayenne S E-Hybrid as its first two models. These Platinum Edition models were well-received, and such reception prompted Porsche to add the Cayenne S and Cayenne S Diesel to the lineup.

Considered as the hotter and more powerful version of the Cayenne, the Porsche Cayenne S and its diesel version could be availed – as standard – in black or white exterior finishes as Platinum Edition models. Porsche is also offering five optional exterior colors (metallic paint finishes): Jet Black, Mahogany, Purpurite, Carrara White and Rhodium Silver. While the wheel arch extensions are specified in vehicle color, a number of sporty touches are finished in high-gloss black. The Cayenne S Platinum Edition and the new Cayenne S Diesel Platinum Edition also feature tinted privacy glass at the rear.

On the surface, a luxurious Bentley with a Startech body kit may seem to be an unlikely combination. But on second thought, a heavily customized Bentley Bentayga in special Verdant Green body color ticks all the boxes of what you’d look for in an unconventional high performance vehicle.

Startech is a subsidiary of the more popular Brabus after-market tuning company. Brabus has been specializing in high end brands such as Maybach and Mercedes-Benz. The company has also ventured into tuning Smart Automobiles which is the compact car division of Daimler AG. On the other side, Startech has been known for customizing off-road vehicles like those coming from Range Rover, Land Rover and Jaguar. The Bentley Bentayga as we know is the most expensive and luxurious sport utility vehicle in the UK.

In case you’re wondering how it all went, the odd combination of a Bentley in green color and Startech’s exterior upgrades has turned into something marvelous. By all means, the owner of this Verdant Green Bentayga would be more than pleased to see the final result.

Skoda has announced another version of its new Skoda Kodiaq SUV. The regular variant of the Kodiaq announced in September 2016 exudes elegant practicality, while the recently introduced Kodiaq Scout version reeks of pure off-road capability and ruggedness. Now, the Czech carmaker is introducing the third version of the SUV with sporty looks – the new Skoda Kodiaq Sportline.

Yes, the new Skoda Kodiaq Sportline just looks sporty. It doesn’t boast of any improvement in power as it still features the same engine line up as the regular Kodiaq SUV. Well, it does have a sense of sportiness, thanks to the fact that its engine sends power to all four wheels; unlike the front-wheel drive regular Skoda Kodiaq.

In addition, the sporty looks of the Skoda Kodiaq Sportline continues inside the cabin, as this SUV model builds on the Ambition trim level. However, the Skoda Kodiaq Sportline features sports seats with Alcantara covers and silver-colored stitching as well as a leather-covered multifunction steering wheel and aluminum pedals.

Ever since it was launched in 2015, the Land Rover Range Rover Sport SVR has proven to be one of the most powerful, quickest and fastest SUVs. In fact, it was able to complete a lap in the Nurburgring circuit (technically a road) in just 8 minutes and 14 seconds. Only a few SUVs are faster.

When buying a vehicle, one of the many considerations that a possible customer takes into account is how quick it could accelerate from zero to 60 mph or 62 mph (100 km/h). The weight of the vehicle, its output and its torque are the main determining factors.

Usually, this sprint time is measured dynamically, which means all factors have been optimized to favor a quick zoom from standstill on an asphalted track or road. Realistically, a dynamic sprint time applies only partly to vehicles that are expected to be taken off the road – to the grass, gravel and snow, as well as to the mud and sand. It’s because these are low-friction surfaces, and only all-terrain vehicles like the Range Rover Sport SVR are able to remain quick.

When Skoda commenced its SUV campaign with the announcement of the new Skoda Kodiaq, not a few have wished that this vehicle would be available in an off-road version. Now, it seems the Czech carmaker has answered our prayers and responded by announcing the new Skoda Kodiaq Scout.

Even though Skoda flaunted the new Skoda Kodiaq as an SUV that could drive off the road with ease, there are reservations with the vehicle’s off-road capability simply because it is a front-wheel drive unit. While the new Skoda Kodiaq tries to impress SUV consumers with its distinctive design, practical intelligence and superior interior space, it seemingly lacks some ruggedness typically associated with off-road vehicles.

So, here comes the new Skoda Kodiaq Scout, which will be officially unveiled at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. As the recipient of the Scout designation, this version of the Skoda Kodiaq brings the SUV ability to a whole new level. It is now more capable of handling off-road drives and its ruggedness as well as practicality is also viable for an all-terrain drive. While the Skoda Kodiaq appears practically elegant and premium, the Skoda Kodiaq Scout has some ruggedness pounded into it – it looks more solid and ready to take both the road and beyond. Examples of this ruggedness include the silver-colored underbody protection both at the front and rear.

The up and coming Lamborghini Urus signals the brand’s official foray into the still expanding world of sports utility vehicles. Lamborghini even promised that Urus would the most powerful and the fastest SUV ever. However, it seems that the new Lamborghini Urus would also signal the brand’s venture into the electrification and turbocharging technologies.

In December, Lamborghini’s chief of research and development Maurizio Reggiani, confirmed to AutoCar that the carmaker is keen on offering a plug-in hybrid version of the Lamborghini Urus. This hybrid version would be just one of the many variants of the SUV. This information was recently reiterated by Reggiani to Car Advice during the global launch of the new Lamborghini Aventador S. He nonetheless divulged that similar electrified technologies would also make their way into Lamborghini’s future super sports cars.

Reggiani remarked that a PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) system that Lamborghini has is currently ideal to be fitted an SUV platform. But Lamborghini’s current PHEV technology wouldn’t be suitable – as per the carmaker’s standards -- to be fitted in a super sports car. While a PHEV sports car from Lamborghini is possible, it would only be introduced at the right time, according to Lamborghini chief executive Stefano Domenicalli. The company’s top honcho disclosed two things: Lamborghini’s next-generation super sports car platform is already on the works, and the new Lamborghini Urus SUV will have a hybrid powertrain.

Mitsubishi Motors is getting all ready to evolve as it will soon unveil the first of its new generation of vehicles in March at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. In fact, Mitsubishi has provided a teaser image of an all-new compact sports utility vehicle that will make its debut in Geneva.

The name of this new compact SUV from the Japanese carmaker remains unknown, although we’re almost sure that it represents the production evolution of the previous SUV concepts that Mitsubishi unveiled in the past few years. The vehicle featured in Mitsubishi’s teaser image features striking similarities with the XR-PHEV (2013 Tokyo Motor Show), XR-PHEV II (2015 Geneva Motor Show) and the Mitsubishi eX concept (2015 Tokyo Motor Show). The latest of these design studies – the Mitsubishi eX concept – could be the closest representation of what we could expect to be the real appearance of the new Mitsubishi compact SUV.

Upon closer look at the teaser image, the new compact SUV from Mitsubishi features a sharp body and a slightly raked roofline – thereby making the vehicle appear like a “coupe SUV.” The front end dons sleek headlights similar to those on the Mitsubishi eX. The seemingly slanting body of this new compact SUV features a prominent character line, as accentuated by the vehicle’s pronounced wheel arches. The rear end, meanwhile, is specified with tail lights with shapes and forms similar to that of the XR-and the XR-PHEV II.

Back in 2016, RevoZport for the first time modified the Model S for Hong Kong’s e-Touring Challenge. This was named the RevoZport R- Zentric P90D Model S safety car. The heavily modified Model S would later serve as the safety vehicle for the FIA Formula E Hong Kong ePrix held last October 9 at the Harbourfront in Hong Kong. Certainly, RevoZport was one of the first auto tuners to dress up a Tesla this far.

Now with the new Tesla Model X, the aftermarket tuning company also has some new accessories built for the crossover. The Hong Kong based auto tuner offers the Model X with its new R-Zentric tuning package. The aero kit comes complete with the brand’s signature diffuser, rear spoiler, side sills and front splitter. It also has some enhancements for the front bumper as well as a new set of Klassen ID 22-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels.

Overall, the RevoZport Model X has a sportier character compared with the previously modified Tesla Model X as done by Unplugged Performance and Villner auto tuners.

For the past few years, the automotive world has been dominated by SUVs. Low-end brands to ultra-luxury carmakers have included an SUV in their lineup. Nonetheless, there are some exotic carmakers that have yet to get caught in this obsession – one of which is Automobiles Ettore Bugatti.

What if Bugatti decides to offer an SUV? Of course, plenty of motorists – whether Bugatti owners or not – to see the French performance carmaker build and sell an exotic SUV. It has been building supercars since it was revived, but perhaps it wouldn’t be impossible to see Bugatti build a super-SUV in the far -- if not near -- future. It would not be surprising if some visual designers do get the idea of rendering an image of a Bugatti SUV.

Jan Peisert of Peisert Design was creative enough to draw up an SUV that features the design language of the Bugatti brand – resulting to an SUV known as the Bugatti Megalon. Of course, this moniker was given by Peisert.

Months from now, Volkswagen will commence sales of its new Atlas SUV (2018 model year) in the United States. But as early as now, the German carmaker is making sure that it would be able to attract more customers for the new Atlas by disclosing that a performance-inspired R-Line package is up for grabs for its latest SUV.

This new trim will be available to the SE and SEL models of the 2018 VW Atlas, effectively enhancing their appearance both inside and out. The overall effect would be an Atlas that looks more dynamic and sportier than a typical model. Exterior enhancements packed in the R-Line trim include the fitment of distinct bumpers -- with integrated air intakes at the front bumper and a glossy black diffuser on the rear bumper.

Further exterior details include new side skirts, 20-inch aluminum-alloy twin-spoke wheels and R-Line badging. Interior improvements, meanwhile, come with an R-Line steering wheel clip as well as stainless-steel sport pedal covers. As soon as the driver starts up the SUV, the Modular Infotainment Platform (MIB II) infotainment system lights up with R-Line logo.
