Aston Martin DBS facelift coming in 2013, will get 630 bhp

Scheduled to be launched from late 2012 is Aston Martin’s lineup of revised DB9 supercars that will be spearheaded by the revamped Aston Martin DBS. The Aston Martin DBS prototype was seen in Germany, clearly showing that the new DB9 will feature a revised front grille and bumpers, fresh bodyside styling and a modified cockpit. An all-new car is due to be launched only in 2015/2016. The carmaker made subtle revisions to the exterior of the DB9 and DBS but they will receive the first major changes on the platform.
What could be considered as surprising is the new grille, which deviates from the current curved shape inspired by the 1960s DB family to a single opening that’s more contemporary. It also has overtones of the very exclusive One-77. These elements stray from the look of the DB family established by Ian Callum (currently chief of design at Jaguar) in 2003 that was smooth and elegant. Rather, it’s now nearer to the One-77 theme of Marek Reichman, the current Aston design boss.
For instance, the bonnet features only a pair of cooling vents in a pane that has a more sculpted surface. The styling revision that’s most obvious is to the bodysides, which now have One-77-inspired deeply concave surfaces. Instead of its trademark vent on each front wing, there is now a crisp line that was part of the styling of the Vantage since 2005. This is also seen on the new V12 Zagato. The DBS’s interior will be minimally modified. The instrument display has typical black-on-white dials and the speedo and revcounter are still contra-rotating. The DBS is powered by a 6.0-litre V12 engine that delivers an extra 20bhp, resulting to a peak power of about 630bhp.
