Aston Martin Lagonda SUV to be based on the Mercedes-Benz GL platform

Aston Martin Lagonda SUV

As far back as two years ago there were rumors of a partnership between Aston Martin and Mercedes-Benz but until the Geneva Motor Show last week there was no sign of such a deal. During the Geneva event, sitting at the center of Aston Martin's stands was a concept car built on a Mercedes-Benz, clearly suggesting the rumors of two years ago had finally come to pass. The Lagonda Concept, which is a preview of Aston's intended entry into the SUV and crossover categories, is patterned on a Mercedes-Benz GL SUV platform and could see the light of production within 24-30 months.

The Lagonda variant of the GL will not be produced at the same Alabama factory as the Mercedes.

Production in the UK is more likely, implying that prices will be in the neighborhood of the $200,000 level.

The vehicle will come equipped with folding seats, a rear-lifting tailgate, an All-Wheel-Drive setup and a powerful V12 engine with the likelihood of flexfuel, low carbon emission hybrid and diesel.
