The Aston Martin Racing team gets back to the track later this week to participate in the last round of the American Le Mans Series: The ten hours of Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta. The team won at Laguna Seca a couple of weeks ago. For this 2.54 mile circuit, the DBR1-2 V12-powered LMP1 racer will be handled by factory drivers: Adrian Fernandez (MEX), Stefan Mücke (D) and Harold Primat (CH). This race is a lot different from Laguna Seca because of its impressive array of faster diesel powered cars even as the team seeks to compete in the unofficial petrol class.
According to Aston Martin Racing Team Principal, George Howard-Chappell, the final race for the American Le Mans Series will be “very different” with the participation of the diesels. However, he emphasized that the team is confident about putting on a “strong show” as its testing last weekend went well and it has an excellent setup. The first test for the Lowes sponsored DBR1-2 will be on September 28 at 14.45 (EDT) with additional practice sessions scheduled on Thursday and Friday. Qualifying starts this Friday at 15.30 (EDT) with the ten-hour race commencing on Saturday at 11.30 (EDT).
Stefan Mücke, who drove the DBR1-2 across the line at Laguna, said: “After such a fantastic race on the west coast, I am hoping we can run as well in Atlanta. The car felt as good as it ever did last time round, and if we can continue to make the successful set-up changes required for the track at Petit Le Mans, then I think we’re on for a great weekend.”
