The latest photo release of the Aston Martin Rapide super-saloon came ahead of its opening this coming autumn. The super-saloon, which is patterned on a long-wheelbase DB9 chassis, is propelled by a 480 hp, 6.0-liter V12 and costs about £140,000. It should be expected to be slotted between the DB9 and DBS in the company's lineup. The super-saloon, which closely resembles the concept exhibited at the Detroit Motor Show ins 2006, will come with a 6-speed ZF automatic equipped with Aston Martin's Touchtronic control. With the exception of its newly added styling line found on the front wing and door, the car basically is in keeping with the attractive, swooping appearance of the original concept with sharper shoulders and hood folds.
With only a single broad lower air intake cavity, the front apron highlights a much neater look. Taking the DB9's wheelbase and extending it by 255mm, the Aston Martin Rapide super-saloon is currently in the saloon standard length of 5 meters just like the Mercedes S-Class category. The Rapide is 63mm higher than the DB9 in spite of its swooping roofline, an increase that guarantees styling balance and offers better rear headroom.
It will also be heavier than the DB9 at 1940 kg, a curb weight increase of 130 kg. Acceleration rate is helped by extra power so that it can reach 60 mph from standstill in a matter of 4.5 seconds and achieve a maximum speed of 180 mph. The rear of the Rapide can accommodate two adult-sized occupants in individual bucket seats. The rear is accessed via rear doors that hinge with a broader variant of the swan-neck operation of the front. The front seats have more space under them to offer rear occupants a place to slide their feet, and practicality is further enhanced with a bulkhead that can be folded and with the parcel shelf addition.
