David Richards, the boss of Aston Martin Racing, said that his team will not be switching to diesels at the Le Mans 24 Hours. Richards said that he aims to win in the race against the cars from Peugeot and Audi. Aston's LMP1 had been the top petrol-powered car at the enduro classic last year; however, it got a fourth-place finish, a full nine laps behind the Peugeot 908 HDi. In the next 12 months, Le Mans' rules are being modified to level the playing field between diesels, petrols and hybrids. In an interview with Autocar, Richards said that Aston would still be focused on the development of the DB9-derived V12 petrol powerplant. Richards had said that Aston Martin is seeking further assurances from ACO, the race organizer, for a more level playing field. He explained that the company would prefer greater variety in the future. The 2010 Le Mans 24 Hours is scheduled to run from June 12 to 13.
