Audi A3 earns five-star rating from Euro NCAP for passive crash safety

2013 Audi A3

The Euro NCAP has given the maximum five-star rating for passive crash safety to the new Audi A3, making it one of the safest vehicles in its segment. The new Audi A3 posted great results for adult occupant protection in terms of frontal, rear, and side impact. It also posted excellent results for child safety and pedestrian protection. Test engineers gave the best rating to the new Audi A3 for protecting the driver and passenger during frontal and side impact collisions. The new Audi A3 also ensures that children are given excellent protection. Euro NCAP cited the Audi A3’s seat belt reminder for the front and rear seats, which come as standard for the vehicle.

Audi also managed to address the key issue of pedestrian protection by employing a specially designed front end that incorporates an active bonnet, which is raised in case of a collision via a pyrotechnic release mechanism to help tone down the impact of an accident. This features allowed the new Audi A3 to score very good marks in this safety category.

To ensure better active safety, Audi fitted the A3 with standard halogen or LED daytime running lights, to make the car more visible to pedestrians. The new Audi A3 is also endowed with driver assistance systems like the standard rest recommendation function installed into the Driver’s Information System, as well as optional speed limit display. The A3 also features Audi adaptive cruise control with pre sense front, Audi active lane assist and Audi side assist systems. Interested buyers could now order the new Audi A3 at a starting price of £19,205 OTR. Buyers in the UK could expect their A3s to be delivered starting September 15.
