The German Design Council is presenting a 2010 Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany to the creator of the Audi A5 Coupe, Walter de Silva. In an official press statement, de Silva said that the Audi A5 Coupe is the “most beautiful car” he has ever designed and that it is on its way to becoming a design icon.

He expressed his delight at the award, saying that it has validated his hard work. A gala at the International Ambiente Fair will take place on February 12, 2010 in Frankfurt where the award will be given to de Silva. De Silva describes the A5 Coupé as having an automotive personality all its own and being the “absolute highlight of Audi’s progressive and stylish design language.” He called the A5 as a “naturally very powerful and supremely sporty automobile” yet without any sign of arrogance. He called attention to the way the shoulder line extends, with the back roof pillar flowing into it and the long transition to the short rear, which renders the A5 a typical grand tourer – a sophisticated touring sports car.
